This is correct. The "fairest" finals system is a 1 team finals where team 1 gets to win.

Anything else you are making compromises in order to make money off a profitable series of games.

The old final-five system (also developed by Ken McIntyre) was probably the best system, assuming you have finals at all, because to win the GF, a team would have to beat every team that finished ahead of them, You couldn't rely on someone else knocking out the tougher opponent for you.

You can have a final 8 system that gets close to that, although it would take another week to complete, and can result it a bunch of repeat match-ups during finals, but its pretty good assuming you want 8 teams to play in the post-season tournament

Yeah, it gets worse as you read it

- Teams outside EPL don't have mandatory testing, rely on their bubbles
- Orient had nine players with illness prior to their previous game - their doctors thought they were not COVID related symptoms
- Spurs paid for them to test to protect their own players
- "Most" of the Leyton Orient squad now positive (another source says 18)
- their previous opponent now has to test everyone as well

They are either going to have to tighten it up, have contingencies for waves of postponements/cancellations, or cancel lower leagues altogether.

For those that get too excited and can't wait until 4PM. The team lists actually come out at about 3:53-3:56 if you go into the NRL app > More > Team Lists

Happened recently in Germany, where a team was forced to play against a team who'd been exposed to COVID

They couldn't afford the fine of forfeiting so they field the minimum 7 players, and socially distanced on the field, so lost 37-0

Ice is a registered poster on this forum, so you could ask him. he doesn't appear to have posted it on this site. but from what I remember it was full of games with no meaningful consequences (neither team got a week off, or risked elimination) or games where the result of winning was arguably worse than if you'd lost.
