Interesting discussion...I think the drive away from full contact sports is pretty strong in primary school. My daughters primary school is an interesting study in contradictions. Inner city school in an upper middle class area but with one of the last remaining ovals. They definitely play touch, both intra school and at lunchtime, and most kids have a grasp of the rules (combination of good sports education program and the fact we are 500 metres from Broncos HQ so very high awareness).
Massive soccer participation for both intra school teams and the local club, where we are well and truly oversubscribed for junior teams, but boys in particular drift away as they reach high school age and are press ganged into Union at their private schools.
I wasn't even aware of that, the oval/grounds missing from schools more and more, someone else mentioned that earlier. I find that astounding. Unless it's forced by school location, property type. Or is this where it's always the case due to being city based etc
Ah yes, so much more acceptable is Union, alot more discretion for intellect to be knocked out of a skull as opposed to a Leaguie
