AUSTRALIAN and Queensland captain Cameron Smith will announce his retirement from representative rugby league, effective immediately.

Fox Sports reports that the No. 9 has called a press conference for 1pm in Melbourne where he will make the announcement.

So who gets the call up? Friend or FAC? Or even is it a way to keep Hunt, Munster and Morgan on the field at the same time?

Who becomes captain? Who goal kicks? Who gets the couple of penalties every game that aren't there?

way bigger loss for you guys then JT or cronk imo, Mccullough (well he is who i would pick) is a damn good player but the drop from smith to him is significant

pretty amazing that despite losing 3 all time great, they'll still run out with a better spine then us but it stills feels like we have a bigger chance now

So long as Cleary comes back well the only spine position they're stronger in is 1.

McCullough will be the hooker and Inglis will be captain imo. Munster will likely kick goals. The one thing it does it makes it more likely that Morgan becomes halfback with Hunt being on the bench, as I think when he comes on that's a better combination than the other way around. Personally I'd still have Hunt at 7 though.

The QLD "registered with an NRL club but unavailable due to injury or retirement" team is starting to look handy - Smith, McGuire, Thurston, Cronk, Gillett, Glasby. Mind you NSW are missing some good ones as well with Mansour, Dugan, Pearce etc.

On a positive, now I can hate Smith all year round without having to pretend I like him 3 times a year.

Seems like a sudden and late decision for what he would have known long ago.
