But thats not the rule MF? Its a shit rule, I agree, but I can see why its there and why he didnt play advantage.
I mean, the lodge try ... that was a textbook obstruction. He ran at the defenders outside shoulder and ran straight into him - and the try was awarded. 8 pt try too... yep ok fair enough. That shit never gets called but yeah ok its fair.

The roberts try... I mean.. at first look it clearly looked like he knocked it into the defender. That was a contentious one.

It was a great game because of how close it was and was good to see JT get one up on the broncos again. It wasnt as good as some of their other cames but fark, it was highly entertaining.

The side needs to trade Milf or Nikorima for a halfback. Badly. Or they should try Boyd at 7 - surely he can control a game at this stage in his career.

It's a dud call but you've losing to the Dogs as well indicates you've got bigger problems then losing out on some 50/50 calls.

Yeah I know mate, to be honest I was just having a massive sook. We did get the rub of the green I know but I think it just sucks in my head the win had been taken from us in the last minute or whatever it was. Like last week when we’re getting flogged and you already know you’re gonna lose with 15mins to go the blow is a little less haha

It Bennetts words "that's probably the most dominant effort I've seen our forwards make all year".

And still it doesn't get them across the line against a team ranked 15. Even Bennett doesn't think they're top 8 material saying things like that.

Didn't see the second half, but I honestly believe we're just a good organising halfback of having a team that I think should be close to competition favourites. I reckon Milf has actually done okay this year where he's playing a role where he has to be the organiser because Niko just can't. That's not his strength. Gillett and Bird injuries would be a loss to any team in the comp. Thaiday should have retired 50 games ago, and I really like the young forwards coming through with Lodge and McGuire our starting props. Another 20-50 games under the belt of guys like Sua, Pangai, Joe O etc would be awesome if we can keep them together. Boyd has been terrible this year but is a quality player. If he regains hamstring fitness he is a great asset but if he has the mobility that he has this year where he can't cover defend, and doesn't have the mobility or speed to get half a step outside defenders to get the centre and winger to second guess a defensive decision. Same with Kahu. He's been one of my favourite players and should be a decent fullback, but looks like he's been playing injured the last couple of years. If he can't get back to where he should be then we have to be a bit ruthless and let him go

Obviously salary cap is an issue, but I reckon a 2019/20 team something like this would be close to premiership favourites given the retirements coming up to some old QLD legends from other clubs:

    1. A fit Boyd - if not a fit Kahu or Isaako with some young guy on the wing
    2. Isaako
    3. Roberts
    4. Bird
    5. Oates - or if he goes Kahu to the wing and someone like Opacic or Staggs in centre
    6. Milford
    7. The best organising half we can get - obviously Clearly is the best going prospect going around
    8. Lodge
    9. McCullough
    10. McGuire
    11. Pangai Jnr
    12. Gillett
    13. Sua
    14. Niko
    15. Joe O
    16. Fifita
    17. Haas

With depth being guys like Glenn, Kahu, Opacic, Mago, Staggs etc. If Boyd and or Kahu can't get back to past speed, then cutting them and or guys like Glenn & Niko, together with Thaiday's retirement, and Oates if he wants too much should open up cap space for a good organising halfback. Ideally Cleary, but otherwise someone like Adam Reynolds or someone like that.

    Brock Lamb?
    Benji's bro?
    Foran?
I know hes not a good defender but what about the fella from the titans that isnt getting a run any more.. he looked pretty good without Taylor there

Yeah I'm not really sure. I'd take Foran on a chance on a base contract. Hell I'm disappointed we let go of Benji if it wasn't his choice. I don't think either of them are ever going to be good enough again in future seasons but worth a shot if cheap.

The major problem as I see it is that I have this theory you can cover 1 poor defender in the halves, but it's hard to cover 2. Milf will never be a good defender, so having organising halves like Moloney or Taylor is going to be a struggle for team balance. Guys like Cronk, Pearce, Cleary, Widdop that's not an issue.

I've watched a lot less footy this year so might not be the best judge either.

Yep, when we sign Nathan and Gus keeps his word and lets him go to play with his dad.

I actually tought Brooks reading Dips post before I scrolled down and saw that the fine scholar Pieman agreed with me.

    Dip is 100% spot on.

It's hardly panic stations and we are a fair chance of winning a lot of games on the back of our forward pack but geez the team would be better if Milf had a Maloney, Pearce, Cronk or Green type steering the ship with Niko coming on as a utility.

    Brooks isn't the answer IMO.

I also think people are harsh on Macca.
His delivery has improved 2000% over the last year alone and it's also a deadset furphy to think you need to be as fast as Cook to be a gun hooker.

Anyone being harsh on Macca is on crack. The issue is and will continue to be Nikorima, when was the last time a team won the comp without a dominant half?

How longs Croft on contract for? Seems to be on the outer at the Storm and there’s a good footy player in him with the attributes we should be looking for.

Why are we not going all out for the Cleary's? Money? We sign them we win a GF within 2-3 years. Like others have said, we are a good halfback (and a good injury run for once) away from winning a premiership. our forward pack has the best young talent in the league by a mile. Getting rid of Thaiday and Sims makes it look even better.

None of these will get us close to a premiership. Brooks is just a slightly better version of Nikorima.

I must say I can’t fault Sims. I honestly thought he has been great all year. I’m not sure why he cops what he does. I was genuinely surprised he wasn’t offered a contract

I know I may have been harsh on Bird but even when he played this season he looked rubbish. Complete rubbish. Why did we buy him? Was he signed as a ball playing lock? A 6? A centre? He played in all positions at times during the few games he played and never showed anything. We've spent around 1.5 mil on centres the past 3 years and completely ignoring the main issue (halfback). It was an issue even with Hunt at the club.

Bennett is stubborn and he needs to go after this season. The fact he decided to run with Kodi this season was ALWAYS going to be the wrong decision. Put Milford alongside Nathan Cleary that is seriously insanely good. Milford has done a good job this season stepping up but he's just not a halfback, it showed last night when he failed to steer us home.
