Top 8 without doubt. Last year was a big wake up and they will be off the coke except for when they have 6+ days break.

Manly are being investigated for breaching the salary cap

Haven't they "been subject to a major salary cap investigation" each year for the last decade according to the press, only for nothing to ever come of it? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I hear something from the NRL.

I would assume it's like most "high profile" clubs - some money was accepted when it probably shouldn't have been but it's not enough for a real breach to take place.

And the plot thickens. Apparently as a result of the investigation into shonky bets on the 2 Parra games and the Souths game which saw the rumoured suspects disappearing from the game in one way or another these fresh allegations have come to light. Should also be worth saying that the police have said their investigations into those first three games have come back negative. Can anyone spell Andrew Gee.

    The fresh allegations include

Tim Simona wasn't alone with the exotic spot bets.
    Manly salary cap breaches
Brown paper bags leading to tax evasion, with at least one more like a suitcase

I hate Manly like everyone else who doesn't support them does.

But I can't stand the way this sort of shit gets brought up via the media and the potential it has to derail a very good season.
Particularly when I assume the people who are involved in the allegations probably aren't even associated with the club any more.

Exactly it all gets reported under the headline of Manly salary cap breaches Then in the body, which they deny and lots of clubs involved. But people are just reading the sensationalised graphic that goes with the story and not the detail so all of a sudden it's all about Manly. I might go down to Peter Wynn's and get a Manly jersey with Hayson 1 on the back.

Cheating Kents, where there's smoke, there's fire, no sympathy here. Its unfortunate that clubs keep rorting the system but the biggest Rorter of all is still getting away with it. Cock-a-doodle-doo!

I like how the headlines say "Manly breach tip of the iceberg" then when you read story it says police and nrl have no proof of any wrong doing but other clubs are under investigation. Also now that they have created the story, manly are being investigated.

so if i am reading all the reports right. .....
the police have nothing and have reported nothing
the nrl has had nothing reported to them
there have been reports (from the article themselves, no mention of any source) of undisclosed payments and exotic bets
that players are friends of "dodgy people" and MAY be getting influenced
that manly is being investigated following this breaking story, and that they were investigated in the past about it

Is it me or is the article making crap up about a breaking story, and that there are rumors of brown bag payments but no proof? and that because many were investigated previously they must be involved now?

I responded to SI in the fantasy thread with something like this:

It's serious the police have used coercive power laws to interrogate businessmen and players who have no choice but to spill the beans. But there's 2 catches:

    1. Under coercive powers laws the information can't be shared with non legal entities eg. the police can't tell the NRL what they know
    2. It's not a crime to pay someone money over the salary cap, or receive it.

The NRL have to find out for themselves and unless there has been tax evasion or Hayson is the one handing out the brown paper bag, the cops don't give a fuck. Where there's smoke there's fire but don't expect it to be Grenfell tower.
