I don't think it'd be worth all that much to be honest.

Most people only care about sports when they're live. Trouble is our timezone fucking sucks for the rest of the world. It'll be after midnight in the States and early morning in Europe and other regions.

No crowds is gonna kill a lot of atmosphere too. Even a half full stadium with 20k fans has less atmosphere than a full one with 20k. Having no crowd at all is gonna feel pretty weird.

If you were watching rugby league for the first time, the difference between seeing an origin game with 80k mental fans and what we're going to see this weekend is pretty vast for generating interest and excitement. We're obviously more pumped for origin because we know what it is, but to an outsider seeing a massive crowd going nuts is gonna draw you in more.

Fair call on the crowd noise. I could see a lot of first time viewer's switching off not putting 2 and 2 together as to why there is a lack of atmosphere.

Realistically though, how long could the NRL go on for if it was the only competition in the world still going on? Surely the public pressure on them to call it off would be pretty astronomical by that stage. Also, I love league obviously but are people who aren't league fans really going to fall in love with the game when the games are being played in front of no people, therefore having no atmosphere.

I just can't understand how the NRL has so little money that they are so desperate to play on even when everything else in the world is shutdown. Once this all over and done with, there needs to be a serious look at how the comp is run.
Why do you want them to call it off? Last I checked no 70 yo, toddlers, or people with an immune system issue have been named recently. If no one is infected, and it is played behind doors why stop it?

This COVID 19 crap is really pissing me off! They’ve just cancelled my U9 son’s game day in two weeks. Why can’t they play, but they can go to school, take public transport, handle money etc etc. The world has gone mad! Oh, and there still isn’t any bloody toilet paper!

This is a terrible idea. Its basically "We'll do this and hopefully no one dies".
Too much of a chance of it ending with a death. "It will most likely be totally fine" is nowhere near good enough odds.

Also making up stats like "99% will have minor flu like symptoms" is not helpful.

Of course I don't WANT them to call it off. But there is a reason why every other major sporting competition has been called off. People who know a LOT more about this stuff than me have advised these people to suspend their competitions. The only reason the NRL haven't done it is because, due to poor management, they have little money in the bank and they are desperate. Is it really worth the risk for a few weekends (that is being very hopeful) of footy?

OK - we know this is getting serious now. The Qld Police have suspended roadside RBTs/Drug Tests due to Corona virus fears.

In the Netherlands they announced the "coffee shops" having to close soon. There were people lined up in the streets to stock up on their pot. Drug Stoned

Just before St Patricks's Day too.

NRL might be in financial trouble, but with pubs/cafes/cinemas/theatres/tourism all closing too that is what is going to really screw things up

If the Warriors pull out after this week, but the comp goes ahead, byes for the following teams

    Rd 3. Manly
    Rd 4. Tigers
    Rd 5. Dragons

I think we'll be doing well to get to round 3, but I wouldn't be trading in any Manly players, just in case.

Would you guys trade ese ese or do you think the coach just didn’t give him the minutes due to pumping the warriors. A bit weird that a starting lock would only get 25 minutes.thanks for any input

Cancelling a kids game costs entertainment and happiness for participants and families, and benefits by lowering transmission risk.

Cancelling a national network of childcare costs businesses the labour of millions of workers, and benefits by substantially lowering transmission risk.

When you factor in the added kicker that the U9s comp faces higher insurance costs and legal liabilities.... its not a surprising call.

The toilet paper thing is just stupid though, agreed. Can’t wait for all the arseholes who have filled their garage with 2 cubic metres of paper towels to have to gumtree it all for 5c.
