Bring in as many of the big $ guns as you can (Teddy, McInnes etc) and likely not have so much cash to bring in keepers elsewhere.
Try and aim for cut-price potential keepers when they appear.
I'm not sure there's enough wiggle room to do both quickly.
Well shorter season, no origin and bleeding trades in CTR means cut price keepers are the go for me
For some new players they may find this handyThe more of these players you can get the less money you need to generate/milk from others, less trades too
And easy to jump off if something changes/injury, the only downside is miscalculating why they were cheaper in the first place (new role/injury/form/fluked some tries etc)
The thing is the sooner you get them in the more the point upgrade is worth overall over the season
Various people have shown the maths, but in simple terms a 5 pt upgrade for 20 weeks beats a 10pt upgrade for the last 5 weeks.
Paying full price for guns means you have to sacrifice/gamble elsewhere but you are paying for safety (Great for your Captain) and gambling on the cow that generally comes with it
Buy too many now though and if the cows don't fire then you might find it tough in the middle to get a decent team together
So I wouldn't chase the flavour of the month full priced gun each week, focus on improving the overall team gradually and they will come
The thing with moneyball is it doesn't matter how or where you get your points, its what you pay for them
