In a season of horrors for some and success stories for others the L2 Ultimate Draft league shapes up to get interesting as it draws to a close. Can RYNOs team The Bandwagon be knocked off its perch on top of the ladder? Will Frankos The Bagels make double digits in points and just who will be the top two teams destined to move into the prestigious L1 league next year?

In my first year of Ultimate draft there has been noticeably less banter and trade negotiations than I saw last year (with Bren being the usual instigator) but it has been a fun season none the less. With one game yet to play to close out this round, here are our current standings and my predictions.

1st. The Bandwagon - RYNO - Sitting pretty atop the L2 perch, RYNOs The Bandwagon have proven hard to beat all year, suffering only 5 losses for 13 wins and looking to make it 14 at the conclusion of this round. With a 4 point buffer it is hard to see the man losing his top spot ranking before seasons end.

2nd. Great Odens Ravens - Welshy - Currently sitting tied on 22 points with yours truly, the Ravens superior for and against see's Welshy currently clinging to second place. Some astute trades throughout the year offset by injuries to key personnel mean that the closing rounds will make for very interesting following to see if the man can take his battle talk and banter with Bren, Random et al to L1 next year.

3rd. Mearcats - Mearcats - After struggling through the early rounds, I have managed to make up some ground over the byes with plenty of coverage. With some players coming back into the fold (Pearce etc) and others coming good at the business end of the year (Guth, ET and Barba) the run is on to see if we can push into the top to position. Games against the top two sides The Bandwagon and Great Odens Ravens in the following two weeks will prove crucial.

4th. The Butchers - User Name - With some tough match ups over the past few rounds resulting in some close albeit crucial losses, The Butchers have slipped to 4th and yet are showing that they can make a push as of yet. Tied on 18 points with Rhinoos and Downtown Poundtown, the battle is on to see who can cement a position in the top four or higher and avoid the humiliation that is the consolation finals. A few H2H games between these three teams in the coming weeks may be the decider!

For the sake of not making the write up unbearably long I'll split it! Laughing

The second half of the L2 write up...

5th. Rhinoos - Rhinoceroo - Down but most definitely not out, Rhinoos make up the meat in the middle of the three teams that are tied for 18 points. That would make for one hell of a meaty sandwich! Still a chance of pushing into the top 4, man management will be the toughest thing with this team suffering some unfortunate injuries and suspensions.

6th. Downtown Poundtown - Beast From The Big East - Keeping their slim finals hopes alive, Downtown Poundtown are clinging on tighter than Stallone in a Cliffhanger rerun! With some of the best players in the game (Smith, Mannering, Bmoz and Tolman) there is no reason to think that they can't make it yet. With the bye rounds coming to a close, returning cavalry may be all that is required to see DP make a push into the top four or beyond.

7th. The Projectiles - Scouter - Never has a team that looked so promising at the close of the draft and in the early stages of the season been dealt as many cruel blows. With players like Segggy, Josh Morris, Michael Morgan, ARey, Lichaa and Parcell along with others seemingly cursed by the Ultimate gods, it's easy to see why Scouters blokes are languishing in seventh position on 12 points. Hard to see him making it from here unless he drafts Houdini into his side, all is not lost with no L3 to worry about being relegated into next year!

8th. The Bagels - Franko - If we had a "The Candlestick Makers" team in L2 and Franko called his team The Bakers (who make bagels) we could have had the whole nursery rhyme contingent. A useless factoid I know but it dawned on me all the same. Rounding out the 8 contenders in L2 this year and currently on 8 points, The Bagels ain't giving up, pushing for a win with one game in this round against Downtown Poundtown that will help him crack the double digits! Without any evidence to the contrary, it's hard to see The Bagels rising like a fried doughnut from the bottom (can you fry a bagel?) but heads can be held high all the same after never giving up throughout the year.

Struggling are you mate! It's tight as a ducks arse in L2 got a horrible feeling the Ravens are going to miss out on 2nd and promotion because Semi and Dugan have been struck down in the closing sprint!

Hahaha, I have a feeling it may end up being just you, Welshy and myself. With Random making a 2 second cameo to shut it down!

There's a few, wingers too inconsistent in ultimate, never seem to score very well unless there name is Semi or BMoz or Mansour

They are up against the Knights this week though. Could contribute one solid score to your team for this week, just a thought is all.
