Sad for McInnes, tough pre-season with so many unknowns about his future and then season finishes before it starts

Any legit captain option other than Cleary remaining? Could be the highest owned player ever.

Stay safe SST
I had the same 3 in mind. Feel bad for McInnes, sad way for him to end his time at the club. Suddenly I'm all for that Macca signing though!

Okay, you guys talked me out of it, you were very convincing.Chucky wrote:Got my first Draft comp tomorrow night, I have pick number 2.
I’m expecting Cleary will be snapped up.
I’m still looking at going with McInnes.
I don’t trust rumours from a fans forum.
Regardless of whether he’s at the Dragons or the Sharks he’s going to play big minutes and be a top 10 scorer at the end of the season.
He has DPP and is not currently an Origin player, although I don’t discount that as a possibility.
Anyone want to talk me out of it?
I won’t take McInnes as my first pick.

I could be convinced that someone like Cook can tick slightly upwards to 65 while Cleary drops slightly to 70. Not an extreme projection.
So then its:
130 (C)ook pts + 115k vs 140 (C)leary pts.
Could I make up the 10 points finding value elsewhere? Maybe. My inflated sense of self worth says I'd like to try.

My favourite avatar here! Just compounds the tragedy.

In 2019 Cook averaged 65 removing the origin period and averaged 65 all of 2018. In 2019 he averaged 67.5 in the opening 11 rounds before origin, so we know he can start strong. He didn't really get the bump last year that other big minute middles did with the rule changes, but that could come this year with the further new rule changes in wiry fit guys that play 80. Not a stretch to think he could significantly close the gap on Cleary. If I select Cleary I'll be captaining him, otherwise it'll be Cook.

Priced at 33, there is some value there. Averaged 43 in 2018 with Moylan in the halves (was GK then), but I guess SJ will return in the not too distant future.
Pretty uninspiring selection but 45s is not unreasonable with the speed of the game now.
For the meme value of having Chad Townsend in my team, I am going to consider this.

I just think Brandon Smith at the Storm is a middle. He plays in the middle and he and Tino were the best bench in the comp. We cannot afford to have him spending time at 9 when we need him in the middle, especially with Tino gone now. Smith is gone next year to play 9 elsewhere, but has always stated while he is at the Storm he will do whatever Bellyache needs him to. Last year was Grants opportunity to get his gas tank up playing 9 at NRL level so he can step straight into the 9 role in Melbourne playing 80 minutes.
This is my gut feel and why I am pretty keen on Grant.

Have considered as an alternative to Cook but will probably stick with Cook in the end. I think Grant will have a fantastic year (smokey for Dally M), but who knows how often Smith spells him

Cheers, I just checked Cook already averaged 64 last year, I thought it was lower.
So he's priced at 64 and Cleary at 73. A couple of points each way and it's only 10 pts between them (assuming you captain them) and 115k to find 10 points of value elsewhere. Very doable.
Having said all that, I'll probably just pick Cleary and get Cook sometime after his annual Origin slump.

Vaughan, Kerr and Lawrie would be the 3 most obvious starting mids. But Bird might be in the mix too.

Yeah, it is a bit of a risk because the luxury is there to give Grant a break if he needs it, especially if the Storm are leading a game comfortably.
Smith did say recently he is putting on weight to play 13 this year, but obviously that isn't going to stop him jumping in to 9 if the chance is there.
