Under rated player. Under rated bloke. The sort of bloke that everyone needs to spend time with, you can’t not walk away a better human after hanging out with him
ShadowSabre wrote:Weird Friday afternoon thought but who's everyone's favourite underrated player of the past?? (not fantasy).
Mine of the current playing has to be Dale Finucane, shit he has a big impact on the Storm's forward pack and often overlooked with the big 3 they had.
In the last 20 years (Not old enough to go further back sorry) I'm gonna go with an outside pick and say Michael Luck. He was such a workhorse and never got the accolades he deserved in an at times mediocre Warriors team

Terrible to watch, unless you're counting every tackle and 6m hitup like us losers are.

The entire 1992 Illawarra Steelers team, especially:
Rod Wishart - criminally underrated these days for a guy who played 20+ Tests and 20+ Origins. Basically I see him and Mick Hancock are the prototype for the modern winger making all the early tackle count hitups. Did all the little things right. He was also always in perfect position all the time - attack and defence. One of the best goal kickers of his era from a sideline... and maybe one of the worst a little closer in haha. He also had tremendous quads. His son is now playing 5/8 in NSW Cup for the Dragons.
John Simon - basically the 1990s version of Adam Reynolds if Reynolds was a better tackler
Neil Piccinelli - if fantasy existed in the 1990s... tackles for days, could offload, occasional goal kicker!
Ian Russell - my favourite player as a 9 year old. An outstanding creative lock, a role that disappeared but is maybe coming back?
Brett Rodwell - used to work for the Steelers as the liaison officer and come to your school once a year to run a clinic.
Anyway this has been your Friday afternoon deep dive into my primary school years in Wollongong.

What happened to Keenan Palasia? He had a pretty serious injury at the start of last year but didn't he have some wraps coming through the grades
Ramitinmyhaaas wrote:So was all the preseason talk about Watson starting at lock just complete bullshit? I don't get why they name him there and bench him after saying he was gonna start at lock? I understand that the weather plays a part but it's just a weird scenario

Did you see how effective he was last week? Wouldn't even be mad if he played 50 mins each week off the bench as an owner.
Ramitinmyhaaas wrote:
Nah I'm not really that mad because even off the bench he is productive, just curious as to why they are benching him after talking him up
Likely still building his fitness, been out for ages. You want Watson on at end of games especially if it’s tight because he’s unpredictable, so better to bring him off bench whilst his match fitness builds so you don’t have to use 2 interchanges bringing him off then back on if AoB isn’t confident he can last the gameRamitinmyhaaas wrote:
