I know a lot of people who will be first to put their hands up and say I am a proud Queenslander and would love to represent their state... These same people would also love to represent their heritage, their parents, their ancestors if the opportunity also came up.

    I see both sides.

    Lol too much !

Someone explain the gif and work thing to me, I never paid attention as I never used to post GIFs a while ago.

Extremely disappointing. It's the only saving grace sometimes.

What's murky - law wise - is a competition that excludes Australian citizens from participation and (more importantly) earning based on where they were born.

It would be one of the easier discrimination cases to win in history if someone like Taumalolo (if he's an Aussie citizen, which I think he is) wanted to take it up. The NRL are probably aware of this...

I’ve actually have a civil case being pushed through court right now about gender discrimination because my local women’s gym won’t let me come take a spin class with the ladies. This is 2020, just let me recreate the “Call on me” film clip and stop being so bigoted already, gosh.

If we are happy with Rugby League existing primarily as a sport for people from NSW and QLD, then its fine to keep origin as the pinnacle for people from these states.

I think if you want to expand the sport, allowing people to play for both NSW/QLD and their country of birth will improve the international game. Right now people will choose Australia over NZ so that they can also play origin - would be better for game as a whole if you could play both NZ and QLD.

Taumalolo is as much or more of a Queenslander than Inglis was. I am sure he could play for the jersey with pride if given the chance.

Same, I have more an issue with jumping from Rep team to rep team (opinion has swayed slightly from my original post)

If Origin is the state where you started playing and developed, fine. Can actually feel the rivalry between each state - ponsy city NSW v Lazy Tanned QLD (just making this up, I'm Kiwi). But pick a side and stay there lol

Other argument though, which I do get, I thought Origin was like an audition for Australia

The episode where George buys a new suit for a job interview but worried after he realises the fabric makes a whooshing sound when he walks.

I see your point but players should Choose your country you’d like to represent and lie in it

You guys realize NSW and QLD are Australian states right?

Can’t have people swapping countries and states. Build the international game more IMO. Tongan internationals have been incredible the last few years. Give them a bigger platform, and more funding IMO rather than lose that momentum by making their pinnacle something they picked something else over in essence

can't you make the same argument that half the players repping tonga/etc havent even been there?

i dont really have a stance on the issue.

reason why the NRL prioritises origin is financial.
