I've thought this a number of times, but I think because there is more room due to less players on the field that they can spread the ball a bit better and it looks better.

My radical plan if they are going to keep destroying the fabric of the game + expansion teams that they drop it down to 16 players and 12 on the field.

Attacking with 12 isn't really any disadvantage for ten minutes, just means one less middle forward to hit it up (does becomes a workload/stamina factor if it's long-term with a send-off). Defensively, obviously it should be a big disadvantage.
