QLD will have Big Papa and Ponga in the mix next game, and at Suncorp. Not going to be like Game 1.

Haven't caught up on the SOO chat - watch the game last night and stayed off the forum.
Here's my thoughts on Game 1:

UP THE BLUES - Get that up ya Queensland.
(Now I've got the emotional stuff out of the way - let's actually consider some of the performances)

NSW were definitely the better team, but 50-6 better, yeah-nah.
Reasons for the Maroons to be worried -
    1. NSW playing 3 fullbacks, and them combining as they did becomes an absolute nightmare to defend against. It's a bit like Qld during their decade of domination, NSW simply had no answers to stop GI at his best.
This new era, NSW has 2 of the most dominant centres (fullbacks) and trying to stop one would be difficult, but both, with Teddy through the middle is mission impossible.
    Contain, perhaps? Stop, no.

    2. NSW with the Panthers combinations - Cleary / Yeo / Luai /To'o
First time in years we have had genuine club combinations and it was obvious that this helped with the team confidence. (On a side note - Sims playing as Luai's guard-dog was awesome. Built for Origin)
    3. NSW bench was much more effective, Haas had the kind of game the Broncos are crying out for, Paulo was solid, Martin did exactly what a bench forward should do, energy and aggression.
As a Knights fan, watching D.Saf crash over under the posts was so good to see.

Reasons NSW shouldn't get cocky ("Don't get cocky kid" - Han Solo)
    1. No Papalii - we should never underestimate just how dominant in middle Big-Pappa is, and he makes the other Maroons forwards better as well.
    2. Welch HIA at 13 mins - this meant Qld played with 16 for most of the game. Welch is not just another role forward, he was their forward leader for this game. Big loss.
    3. Grant and Munster were clearly underdone. Grant still had some nice touches and to be honest I think he's a better hooker than Cook now. But, with some more game time under his belt, he's the danger man for Game 2. Munster had virtually no impact on the game. I was counting his touches in some go the Maroons attacking sets in the first half and he didn't touch the ball for 5 tackles. He was doing a lot of the long kicking, but this screams they were hiding him. His brain-snap tantrum kick to Martin's gut was just like the dirty grub he is. IMO he should be cited and suspended for a week, just so Bellyache can yell at him to get that shite out of his game. That said, Munster will be hurting and I'm expecting a massive game from him at Suncorp.
    4. The Maroons will have a much stronger forward pack for Game 2 - IMO Feldt is goooone.
Holmes to the wing - his best position. Ponga will be rushed back in, or, if he's injured, Brimson starts, to add some spark at fullback.

The administration has shown its hand - SOO is a different beast.
The ref had a good game, let things go that should be ignored (although how Feldt wasn't binned for 10 for a late, high shoulder to Murray's head is a complete mystery).
    Game 2 will be brutal.
Qld will win it by less than 8.

After waking up this morning and reflecting over the game you can definitely tell it is a Paul Green coached team. Played very much like the Cowboys used to play.

Majority of 4th tackle plays were just a forward hitting up the line. Got very clunky as soon as they started attacking the try line and once they let in a couple tries they just gave up.

The whole teams attitude reminds you of the Cowboys the last few years, considering most of the players played game 3 last year, that's a shocking turnaround.

It's not all doom & gloom for Queensland because we all know the game is about possession & not making errors giving away good field position. I remember was it last year or the year before NSW won origin 1 easily then the tables turned in origin 2 & Queensland won. In the first 20 mins of the 1st half when Queensland had a couple of attacking opportunities imo they look dangerous & made a few breaks.

Like all of a sudden the judiciary has gone from giving 5 weeks to Dragons guys to only  giving one week or fines now for similar incidents.

In fact I’ll shut up now as the more I think about it and keep going the more I’m scratching my head.........

Anyone else frustrated/scratching their head like me?

    The irony of your post,

So because Murray misses a game so should Feldt ? So a similar hit on Matterson and with his history is out for 4 weeks so Feldt is out for 4 weeks ? Or if Murray doesn't miss a week you're fine with a fine ? When do the Cowboys get advised if they can play Feldt or not if it's a week on week proposition. What if the Cows play before the bunnies in the round what happens then ?

Remember this quote: THIS IS WHAT OUTRAGES THE FANS IS THE INCONSISTENCY

I'm scratching my head too, but it's your logic, not the game.

NSW previous biggest winning margin, which I think was also when Bryan Fletcher did his ‘grenade’ post try celebration, is what started Queensland’s dynasty.

    QLD Origin II Team:

    1. Ponga
    2. Coates
    3. Gagai
    4. ????
    5. Holmes
    6. Munster
    7. DCE
    8. Papalii
    9. Grant
    10. Welch (if fit)
    11. Capewell
    12. Fifita
    13. Arrow
    14. Mahoney
    15. Tino
    16. S’ua
    17. MoFo

Kaufusi isn’t up to Origin anymore. Doesn’t break the line, mediocre defender, too many errors.

Honorable mentions – Jwal probably deserves a spot somewhere, wouldn’t mind seeing how Hamiso goes at centre for some speed and flare. Mahoney needs to be there, form hooker all year. Capewell can’t be centre but is good enough to be second row. Tino needs to be coming off the bench.

Cons – Latrell literally shits on Gagai and makes him his bitch. Fifta and Tino running sideways too much (playing like they do at the Titans). Needs them to run straight and then bend the line.

Yeah more than decent chance that QLD hit back hard. Ponga (hard to believe he's only played 3 Origins so far), Papa, Welch would definitely make a difference.

Only have to look at Game 2 to Game 3 in the last two series to see that. 38-6 to 26-20 in 2019, 34-10 to 20-14 last year.

Back in fantasy-land, any advice on what to do with this lot? Pretty stuck for trades.

    Brailey
    Tohu iPap Watson
    Lucy Matto
    Fog Moses
    Avo Kelly
    Teddy Laurie Hynes

    Macca Jones Stefano Roberts

    Cleary Pap Walsh Schuster

    16 trades, 18k

I don't particularly want to trade any of my red dots, but I'm not thrilled about running Jones, Stefano and Roberts. Moses and Fog both have to stay with Cleary and Schuster out which limits options too.

Stefano the only one I'm set on getting rid of, but I really have to make a second trade to do anything worthwhile with him.

    Considering the following:

    a) Pap + Stefano to DiFi and Simonsson

    b) Pap + Stefano to CHN and Lolo/Thompson

    c) Laurie + Stefano to CHN and Simonsson

Do any of those look good? Anything else you'd look at?

I don’t think Ponga will be fit for SOO2. But they will definitely be more up for it in the forwards next game, plus Munster was clearly underdone

On another note, anyone want me to make a dismissive comment about a plodder in their fantasy team???

To be fair mate I don't think many centres could score a try in Origin 15 out after catching a ball stationary.

Personnel will help a little bit but the biggest difference IMO will come from the forwards being constantly reminded during the camp for Game 2, how much they let the whole state down.

That and we need to raise the mower setting up a bit to suit our relative lack of speed....

Not sure if it will be enough to jag a win against such a stacked NSW team but I'm sure they will be better - it hasn't been uncommon over the last year for games to blow out significantly due to momentum (trust me, I'm a Broncos fan) and it does somewhat flatter the winning team.

Pretty obvious what QLD have to do. Bring back Allan, Edrick Lee, Brenko Lee, and Sami. Hard to fathom why they dropped so many proven winners in the first place.
