Also Gagai is on $600k Sauce.

    I dont mind it.
He is the kind of Matt Ballin sorta player I was hoping to get.
Good defender, tough, comes from a winning cultre - he will cover back row and five-eigth too for when mullen goes down.
I just hope we didnt spend a fortune on him and hope that keeping him doesnt mean we lose one of the good young guys.

I'd say the Knights are still solid favourites for it, but I think whoever gets the spoon next year will win a lot more matches than this season - maybe something like 6-7 wins, which would give 16-18 points. If that's the case then there will be a couple of teams who are around that figure or not much better. Knights, Dragons, possibly the Tigers I reckon all won't have seasons much better than that, as well as a team that should go better but probably wont (like the Rabbits, Roosters and Eagles this year). It wouldn't surprise me if the Titans struggle as well.

On one hand you want to throw the chequebook at an untested rookie and then you are concerned about paying $500k for a SOO player??

Shock me, once again you missed the point.

The point is - he is a centre, and he is not the kind of centre that can win you games on his own - like Hodges or Gasnier, so therefore IMO is not worth (reportedly) 600k. Not even close to that. The fact that he cant play 6 or fullback all that well limits his value.

Gagai is a very good centre, but 600k is half or fullback money and teams (that dont have the luxury of unlimited TPAs) these days cant afford to spend that kind of cash on a centre, whether they are SOO players or not.

So as I said, unless he develops some ball playing skill and he can shift to fullback and be effective there - this will be his last contract anywhere near that price with Newie IMO because most teams are just not in a position to pay a fairly one dimensional (but good) centre that kind of money.

Throwing a chunk of cash to lure a Fullback who has the potential to be a superstar - on a 2 year deal or something like that is a no brainer for a side like newcastle IMO. The problem is, they dont have the money because its tied up in Uate, Stockwell, Hodkinson, Mullen, Gagai, - all players you would give up for the chance to sign a young bloke with the potential to be a superstar fullback.

Realistically, they are no chance of making the finals for the next 2/3 years so why not take a punt on a kid who has the potential to be a gun?
I wanted us to do it with ash taylor but they wasted the cash on hodkinson who come the end of 2018 will be gone anyway.

There are always 1 or 2 teams that go shit out of nowhere, or slip a fair bit down the ladder.

The titans were lucky to make the 8 this year but who knows, having Hayne actually train at fullback, and with a spine of Peats, Elgey, Taylor and Hayne - they could be anything really. Ryan james, greg bird, Wallace, Douglas, McQueen, Hurrell... fuck me they actually have a brilliant side on paper.

The warriors will be an interesting one next season. RTS fit, possibly foran there, a new coach... will be interesting to see what happens but we can only assume they will do what they have always done.

Newcastle will be specials for the spoon but I think they will surprise a few teams - they might win 5/6 games next year. lol.

The sharks are a side that I think may slip down the ladder. Barba surely wont produce the form he has shown this year again after an offseason getting on the piss with the EBC again, ennis is gone, Gallen may not be back.... they could be in line for a fair drop but who knows.

The tigers will once again be in the same position - 8/9 but will come like 12th on for and against.

The eels will be interesting. They showed that when rorting the cap they can be brilliant on both sides of the ball but when they are not cheating they are just average. Wouldnt surprise me if they made the finals or if they got the spoon.

So Luke Walsh signs with Newcastle... wow.
I guess that means Mullen is playing hooker with Kostjyson in the back row/bench.

Uate and Buhrer have made a straight swap, which is great news for Newcastle. We get rid of a winger we weren't going to use and get a decent second rower or hooker

Fuck me dead, Brown must have nudes of Barrett or something...
Thats such a good swap for Newie.
A no nonsense workhorse back rower/backup hooker for a bloke who we dont use, we prob saved money out of it too.
    Crazy.
Makes me wonder why we signed Kostjasyn now, must to be exclusively at hooker..

I guess it means we are not getting fensom too - not too fussed. Still hoping for paul vaughn tho.

I mean, its not amazing but its not horrible, at least they can tackle.

Straight swap in terms of players, but I'd suspect not the same in terms of dollars. Don't get me wrong, I think Uate out and Buhrer in is a good thing for the Knights, but I'd suspect they're paying more for Buhrer than Manly is for Uate. Manly seem to have a good record lately of value for money when it comes to signings.

Knights got the best part of that deal, surely Buhrer wouldn't like getting shafted after a good 2016
