That's really unfortunate and I hope he comes through alright. I wonder if there is some sort of salary cap concession for that? E.G. If he has income protection insurance that pays say half his wage, do they get to take that amount off the salary cap?

This might also impact on the Korbin Sims to Broncos/Rabbits rumours. The Knights might not want to let him go now they've lost a forward for what you'd expect would be a pretty significant length of time.

Knights chasing Matt Scott. The only draw back is that Scott wants big dollars and a 3 year contract.

So that would equate to $3M slightly back ended which they could easily afford

    How is his neck though?
He has obviously been a class player for his career and the knights should snap him up if he wants to come. Not at 700k or what ever though.

I wouldnt read into it too much, every single off contract player in the league is linked to newie at the moment. He is just trying to get as much as he can out of NQ.

Yeah thanks hut no thanks. We don't need to be a retirement home. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, stay calm. Resign the juniors and then add up and coming players or fit players with experience to add to the balance.

    Follow the Panthers model.

Newcastle prop Korbin Sims is poised to quit the club to immediately join the Brisbane Broncos after securing a release from the final year of his contract at the Knights.

    Follow the Panthers model.

The panthers poached Trent Merrin and now James Tamou.
We need to buy good props in their prime, not over priced blokes with injury clouds at the back end of their careers.

If we can get scott at the right price, then good do it, but please do not spend a million a year on him. Please.

Korbin sims gone, meh. He suffers from the same syndrome tariq does - forgets he has hands when he is close to the try line.

Newie is in desparate need of props now, I would love it if we threw a bit of cash as the now skinny Kasiano/Klemmer/Tolman/Graham/tom and or george burgess/RCG

Trent Merrin is a fantastic player and James Tamou still has a lot to give, he's the final piece of the puzzle in their eyes - however I agree it's not what we need at the moment. I want some big bastards that will strike fear with runs or that you will get hit. Start with that and add the flair later, at the moment a road trip to Newcastle is a holiday and understandably so.

It may sound really strange but I think if the club is smart with their spending we could really come out of this really positively. With every hit so far there's been a silver lining, K Sims gone frees up even more money for us. Front load the contracts of guys like Safiti bros and look at building the club around young talent.

Guys like Burher and Rory K are solid contributors but if we could have one player of name in the 2nd row and prop then suddenly we're a decent side.

This year will not be about wins and losses but the future of the club and the development of our juniors. I think most Knights fans have this approach and I fully expect our crowd numbers to remain consistent.

Rumour that Anthony Tupou has signed with newcastle. If true, I like it. Cheap veteran prop. Good signing.

Yeah I'm alright with it. Decent depth signing. Could be worse. Think he'll play 2nd rower though.

he mostly played prop with his last stint at the sharks didnt he?
I reckon he plays prop off the bench. Surely he comes with a bargain basement price tag, so if he was cheap I am ok with it. We certainly need middle forwards.

According to Zero Tackle matt scott appears certain to join the knights next season.

If true, dont get me wrong I think scott is a quality player and would be a quality signing, but for 900k at the back end of his career with an ongoing neck injury...... is a bad call. Especially considering he would be 32 by the time he gets to newcastle and wants a 3 year deal apparently.

I mean, you could prob land andrew fifita for that kind of cash who is a better player than scott these days, you could land any prop in the league actually. Or two very good props.

I would love him at the club, but for something closer to 600, not 900.

Would be great if we could do a bronco's and sign him for 85k and just pay him the rest in TPA.   Fishing

You would need an actual fanbase and actually be making the Top 8 before that pipedream becomes a reality.

    got one fishy

also Brenton Lawrence is apparently being shopped by the sea eagles. If he is over his back injures, Newie should snap him up. Experienced, relatively cheap, good player when healthy.

They've got one of the best fanbases in the game, certainly one of the most loyal.

    2012 20,919
    2013 18,836
    2014 17,616
    2015 15,891
    2016 14,457

Crowds have dropped a little bit but you would expect that from the recent results however those are excellent crowds for back to back spoons.

Knights are known for having quite an awesome fan base.

Top 8, yeah not going to happen for awhile.
