Its crazy, if he signed today, he would be our best prop - and the bloke isnt even getting a gig for Cronulla.

Totally agree, given a good run he could be anything.

That's a good release for the Knights as far as I'm concerned. Okay player but not worth what he is probably asking unless he is playing outside JT IMO.

Re: 2019 NIB Knights
i don't get it for the dragons
pre injury, i think JDB was one of the dragons best and both thompson and frizz have done a good job for the last 18 months, if i was thinking about a position that st-george need a new player in, back row would probably be last
couple of the bench backrowers have had some good games lately too

Totally agree.. strange from the dragons, unless one is leaving at the end of the year.
I'm not fussed about letting him go. Taking up too much money, suspended all the time.
I would love to know how many times in his career he has run the short line - close to the try line - and spilled the ball when all he had to do was catch it and put it down.
He is one of the most over rated players in the league. As someone said, he only looks good running off one of the top 2 halfbacks to ever play the game.
OK - so with him gone and Snowden gone (edit: and possibly McManus) - that frees up a fair bit of change.
There is a rumour we are going after Barnett from the raiders.... :/
Why dont we chase Soliola, the raiders have too many good back rowers now.

Re: 2019 NIB Knights
T. Sims, K. Snowden, J. McManus, A. McKinnon, J. Smith will all free up a massive amount of cap space.. also have R. Rochow coming off contract. So that will leave D. Gagai, T. Hodkinson, J. Mullen and A. Uate taking up $2.25mil. The only other person taking up some coin really would be Korbin.
You have to think they have a solid warchest to grab a couple of guys to help their forward pack. Don't see the Cowboys being able to retain both Lowe and Tamou, Segeyaro could be on the outer at Penrith. Sam Moa, Kenny Bromwich and David Fifita could be handy too... Pity there aren't any solid FB options or other Hookers outside of Segeyaro to chase.

Surely the McKinnon contract hasn't been included in the cap for 2 years now.

You'd think the NRL would exclude it from the cap but.

The NRL have said they would exclude it from the cap but we're still paying him.
We won't get anyone of quality. I would love Seggy but we're more likely to get someone like Cam King who wouldn't be horrible either.

We should have a fuckload of money to spend but we need to look at what we need the most and that's some solid leaders that put fear in the opponents.
To be honest I would love us to sign the Walker brothers to come in as assistant coaches for the rest of the year and add some attacking flair to our team and just entertain the crowd.

Korbin is just as over rated as Tariq, but at least he is young.Random wrote:T. Sims, K. Snowden, J. McManus, A. McKinnon, J. Smith will all free up a massive amount of cap space.. also have R. I think they poured a little too much money into the Matutia brothers too...
Jeez they would be loving that Uate is off contract soon too so they can fuck his massive 500k off. If they could re-sign him for half that I prob would still say no.
I would rather we went after Matt Ballin than seg, because I dont mind Levi. He looks alright when the forwards are actually going forward. Seggy would cost too much money and he is just too injury prone. In saying that, I wouldnt hate it if he signed. Someone like Cam King would be good too, but the guy just cant stay on the park.
Missing out on Coote was a big one - maybe newie could go after Zac Santo, he was electric in the QLD cup a few years ago.
Would love to sign someone like Gutherson to play FB long term but the eels wont be letting him go.
I wouldnt mind getting Michael Gordon for a year too.
Would love to get David Fifita purely for the potential ...risk v reward.

Segeyaro was going to go to the Titans before Peats happened supposedly. Could build the team around Segeyaro + Gagai, would be pretty sweet.

Re: 2019 NIB Knights
It all depends how much money Seg wants... the bloke is so injury prone its not funny. But a hooker pairing of him and levi could be pretty electric.
Gagai is not a fullback... Hes a great centre but just doesnt have the ball playing ability to be a fullback in this day and age - and he gets caught out of position so much.
Newcastle have to sign at least 1 great player in order to attract some other players.
Seggy on his day could be that bloke, but yeh, it all comes down to $$$$.

Re: 2019 NIB Knights
They need to be careful not to pay overs. They get caught paying a DCE-type deal, and it'll hamstring the club for a long time unless it really, really works - ie - the next Andrew Johns.
The Eels recruited well... but perhaps don't follow that business plan
Someone like a Jayden Nikorima would have been good to partner Hodkinson. Young and creative, would be a great match with an experienced calm head like Hodkinson taking the pressure off. Maybe Cogger is the answer, but he's super young, and driving a team around the park in the position the knights are right now has killed the career of many a promising half.
