For a second I thought it was gonna a be a Koro to Cleary try. I'll take it still obviously.

The year I got top ten (which I think was same year Steve Nicholls did) it was about getting some high tarriff pods and hitting the byes while saving trades early. Apart from the last bit that's the MattNZ strategy, but you do need to pick the right pods and not too many of them. Also, got lucky with injuries in the run-in.
Other two times I got top 50, which seem a long time ago, it was all about working the bye/origin rounds (and, again, saving trades early).
Last two years I've been a complete trade whore and wondered why my ranking has tanked.
Steve also made the point though (about the same season) that you don't need too many PODs. There's a pool of high ownership selection worthy players and nobody can have all of them. Which one's you choose (and when you choose them) is the point of difference.
Edit: I think that's what you implied anyway having re-read it.

Yeah, that's true, but getting on low-ownership value players before a run of form (from memory that year I did it with Wighton and Moses) can compensate in both points and money for other ropey early decisions. Come the end of that season everyone who'd made enough money had similar teams, and yes there weren't many injuries so we could all hold our positions. This was the year that mtvb and verbal were both top 5 as well, so rather better than this year for the community.

Makes him cheaper for next year. If he's available at centre everyone everyone will have him, if he's only half it'll be more of a decision.

Wonder if I’m the only one whose brain goes “I Like This Ray Stone” every time Ray Stone does something just because that Fantasy team did really well last year.

Same. I think he called his team that after something Gus said in commentary, and I always hear it in Gould's voice.

2019 was a blessed year for fanatics.
It was a year you could hold Dylan Edwards for entirely too long and still be leading the whole thing by round 10

Right now he is sitting right in the price range to make it a tough decision. If he is the dominant kicker at Bulldogs he will smash a 45 average with his running game + 500km per week. Always a chance he plays as a run first 6 with Flanagan and splits kicking

Are prices for next season based off what a player finished the season on, their average points, or some other random metric?

Average points, usually.

I don't follow salary caps too closely but it seems Dogs are getting close to clearing out the shit. Off season signings will be interesting. Even a good half would struggle at the present day Dogs but Burton with his boot and some attacking stats could be massive depending on who he is paired with and what the game plan is.

Captain Cleary having absolutely no impact on my rank. Thought that might be my last chance to gain some ground. Oh well, always next season.
If Burton could do somethign too, that would be great.

Townsend makes a lot of sense in hindsight. Playing next to Moylan who isn't a noted kicker. SJ had previously shown that Shark's halves love to kick.
There was genuine reasons to pick Lam but think we collectively got a bit blinded by upside. Keary had never previously been dominant kicker. Flanagan the year previously averaged 50+ in the same role. Lam the year previous had a couple of big minute games in the halves for good scores. (63 in 80 minutes round 13, 48 in 56 round 9)
I don't think Lam was inherently a bad pick, but Keary dominating kicking + Lam not getting any attacking stats before getting injured made it look terrible.
Should have backed the eye test after he didn't look great in the trials
Yeah I agree with this. Lam was one of my first picked. I even watched replays of the games he started at 7 from the previous year. At the start of the season I didnt take enough notice that Keary changed to be halfback and swapped sides to help his kicking.

Mostly their season average multiplied by the magic number which is determined by what the salary cap is. Players with less than 10 games usually get a discount, increasing by how few games they played. There's usually a few players they nerf either randomly or to try to make it interesting.

Are they still playing replays from the first half?

If I were Nathan Cleary, I would simply score 3-4 tries this half.
