There was some great footy played in and around those years. NRL's not been able to match the Tina Turner promotions of the game. The game had hardness but also an exciting flair. Sadly it was too good and grew so quickly that it blew itself up just a few years later.

Yeah has still never 100% recovered from Super League.
There’s no way AFL gains the foothold it has in Sydney without that split.

To be fair, Rabbits did credit the refs for Souths winning last night. Nothing about the team learning from their poor discipline and earning the win - it was the ref's officiating that got them over the line.
