Yep. Even if you think some form of punishment is warranted, you've now got people who on Thursday night will pay $20-$60 for tickets to a game where the best NSW forward from origin this year will be sitting fit and healthy in the grandstand due to that. Surely the NRL has an obligation to the fans.

A say $3000 fine could provide 3 separate grassroots junior teams with $1000 grants which could be used to say buy a full set of junior jerseys and 10 footballs for training.

    exactly,

i'd even like to see fines replace points for minor high tackle infringements. burgess throwing a water bottle should have been a fine too.

we look to suspend our players far to often imo, i know it may work as a deterant but players don't want to be fined either and if a player didn't get the message, then suspend them. We are worse as code by suspending players for nothing incidents every 2nd week, fines can put more money into the game and having our best players on the field is better for the code

    totally agree LG.
If you start hitting players in their pockets it will deter them more than giving them a week off.
A lot of players prob enjoy sitting out a week every now and then too especially at this time of the year.

    exactly,

biggest loser out of suspensions is the clubs fans and the club itself, the player wants to play but end of the day, suspended with pay isn't gonna kill them unless its a big game

the only loser in a fines system is the player and the code can use the money gained for something worthwhile too

if we charged players for lying, where does it stop ?? charging guys for claiming tries despite knowing they didn't ?? charging guys for insisted the ball was stripped when they dropped it cold ? charging kenny edwards for his fake cramps every time parra are winning a close game ?

i don't see the big deal re what wade graham did, the onus was solely on the ref for not paying attention imo. players would always be happy to lie to gain an advantage, thats why we have match officials present

No matter what rules are in place players and coaches will always find a way to take advantage as evidenced here. The trick is once they do it needs to be stopped quickly and not let it happen every week over and over again, no way anyone ever gets away with it again. If Graham wants to ruin what little reputation he has to pull a stupid stunt like this I really don't care, it's a once off that doesn't really effect the game. What does piss me off is people getting away with shit like tripping and slowing down the play the ball in their own 20m but nothing will be done about that.

    i agree

i don't like to be critical of on field refs because live decisions happen so quickly and mistakes happen, but 2 things fundamentally wrong with the game are their fault and their fault alone

    a) not using the sin bin enough, which would help solve the last bit of your post
    b) not penalizing anyone in golden point, i'm a fan of golden point but only if refereed correctly, the current shambles is a mess and is frustrating to watch

whether its the refs who have done this over time or a directive from archer, they're dropped the ball and both this issues hurt the game as much as anything else
