I am already jumping on the Smith train and expecting it to make some losses to begin the season, so I just cannot take the risk of another high priced sinking ship (to switch vehicular metaphors most confusingly). Priced at his 60 average, a "poor" game of 45 or two to start the season will make his price plummet. And as petty as it may seem, there is nothing in this game that I hate more than seeing my season-gun get snapped up by the undeserving masses on the cheap just before taking us all to boomsville.
TL;DR- Some players need to be death-ridden into your team

I just can't justify the extra 85k to have Lamb playing over Elgey in my 17. I havn't been watching him closely enough and his sample size for games is just to small, but I see him in a lot of teams. Any knights fan care to tell me that he is the next wonder kid who will make some great attacking plays or is all of the hype just about him getting Hodkos kicking metres because of a bad leg? Any news on how Hodko actually is? Knights v Raiders tonight will be one of the most interesting trials to impact fantasy teams.

Because agonizingly, besides Lamb, there is clear daylight between Elgey and the next half I would want playing in my 17 (would put Elgey in 25 regardless). Probably Moses at 178k difference! And even he is a bit of a risk, and just 100k shy of the legitimate guns :/

Why do I do this to myself?

Massive km when he played with hodgko last year but tiny sample size, he has quite a big body and defensively sound, so no Brooks turn-style scenario

I expect 30 minimum from Lamb he should be pushing 40 if he gets the bulk of general field kicking

I would like to hope he can route out those missed tackles, because his 20 tackles per game are outshone by his 5 points in deductions. Add the 5 points fur run metres, he still needs 20 points from kick metres to make 40 since he seems to have few attacking stats. So he needs to kick 400 metres per game if he doesn't improve his defence. He actually made this on his debut, but fell short in the remaining games. Not that it isn't doable, but I think Hodko will have to have one hell of a sore leg. I think 300km (and a +15) to give him 35 is not unreasonable, but he still only rises ~45k and I would back Elgey to score similar for cheaper.

He didn't score under 30 last year and priced at 28

But he did score 30 in a third of all his games ( Cool ). Too many 30s and I would consider him a flop, I like to see my players increase in value more than that. No room for a 30s plodder in my den of champions. Unless I buy him priced for 20.

averaged 38 thats a big increase over the 28 he is priced at...nearly $100,000 price rise if he can maintain the 38

what's not to like, If no basement priced rookie becomes available there ain't much better

Sezer a decent shout if Croker misses 6+ weeks.

Don't listen to Welshy, he's trying to push that Sezer barrow for his ultimate team. My boy Blake is the real value raiders half, whoever picked him up is a genius

Haha yeah you got me, I will probably include him. I just like to play the other guy and see if I can convince myself it's a bad idea. There really isn't a lot of options in the halves IMO, I do like Sezer as well though but I always worry I am being clouded by his days of 400+ kick metres paired with Kelly at the Titans. Why did he only average 217 last season when Austin only averaged 101? Though he did have a few halves partners, i know, I am worried it is more about the playing style of the Raiders, always being on attack and making huge metres all over the field that there just isnt much long kicking to be done. He rarely seems to be the main focus of attack in the team (though perhaps the bet is that it changes with Croker out), I still think Hodgeson, Austin, Leipana all too dominant to the Raiders attack for him to improve much. But I will still watch him closely. As I said, Raiders v Knights- what a trial!

Pookus you named one of the reasons he gets less km per game. Hodgson. Add his 85m per game to that tally you had

wow, I didn't realise he was making so many points of KM. That boy can do it all.
If he gets 80 mins with Baptise out, I think he is the pick of the non-Smith premiums

If you are worried about Lamb scoring 30s, but happy to put Elgey in your 17, then you need the reevaluate

Don't get too excited about the Winterstein injury thinking Ponga will get picked. I reckon Javid Bowen will be selected before Ponga
