I think you'll find we have been interested in Crichton but we're not going to pay silly money. Very little leaks from Eels HQ these days - thank God.

In terms of fitting him in it would depend on how much the Titans pay of his 1.2mil. But if Pearce and Nikorima leave, they'd do it easily.
Is this tongue in cheek? How do they put on Cronk, and Hayne, and do it "easily"?

Because pearce is on something like 800k and Nikorima is on something like 350k?dasherhalo wrote:

Also, surely every team in the league would have made inquiries about Crichton, he is one of the best back rowers in the league, young and comes across as a good bloke.
I agree that the cap situation at the roosters is a fucking joke considering all the other talent in the side, but if you look at it that way thats how they do it easily. Hayne isnt getting 1.2 from anyone any more, closer to half IMO and prob only for a season.

Re: Cronk/Pearce Watch
If Nikorima is on $350k, how on earth were the roosters under the cap in 2016 & 2017, let alone 2018?

They clearly over valued him when they got him from brissy - but yeah as I said before, their cap situation is a fucking joke. I mean, its fun to tease bronco fans about how many rep players they have and how they are obviously over the cap - but this roosters shit is next levelDip wrote:If Nikorima is on $350k, how on earth were the roosters under the cap in 2016 & 2017, let alone 2018?

They don't need to let Pearce go to fit Cronk in, and it's been well reported Nikorima is on $350k, even the Roosters have acknowledged that. Perhaps they need to offload that, but I don't think the NRL would rubber stamp something that would put them over regardless of them shedding someone.
Soooo, if Pearce goes, it's neither here nor there to the Cronk signing, in fact the Roosters have said they want to keep him. So if he asked and is granted a release it will free up $800k give or take, which would be more than enough to fit Hayne in on the basis he is granted a release on compassionate grounds and won't be able to command $1.2 or even $800k from anyone else, so the Roosters wouldn't need to find anything other than what they'd set aside for Pearce.

At a guess a fair percentage of those would have been at origin time when JT & Lockyer were the QLD halves before Cronk was picked as a bench utility, and the dirty cheating Storm were also playing without Slater, Inglis, Hoffman, at least one winger, and maybe a prop and another backrower.
I'm not sure if that's a really good indication of how he might go without Smith now. If anything, it's probably a pretty good stat for him.
Considering Smith has missed one origin since his debut, and has now played the most consective tests for Australia, I can't imagine there's too many non-club games in that stat.

Almost certainly the bulk are club games, so that isn't a great stat for him at all. A losing record without Smith. It shows when not with a group of Origin players, assuming some were around that time, he couldn't carry the side.

are we gonna use the fact that the only series QLD lost in basically forever was largely because cronk was out as a way to discredit smith ? please

Especially now Morgan and Munster have shown what they can do in Origin, and Cronk is still there for another year or two, Queenslanders are generally happy to lay all the blame for that series loss on DCE. Nothing to do with Captain Cam at all.

To think this time 4 years ago DCE was the next heir to the throne running around in the 2013 WC. Now it seriously looks like he wont get a look in for even Origin again

Paul Gallen ran for about 600 metres that series and won the Wally Lewis medal, before subsequently being (insufficiently) banned at the end of the year for drug cheating.......I prefer to blame the series loss on that.

Will be interesting to see who the Roosters sign now that they've freed up the best part of a mill by releasing Pearce. Is SBW contracted to NZRU next year?

World Cup is 2019, so he'd probably stay in Union I'd think until that is finished (although could possibly sneak a year of League in I guess but would struggle for selection I reckon).
Maybe the Roosters could bank all that cash and strive for being only a couple of million over the cap??

You would think they will have to pick up someone so they don't end up like Newcastle and be too far under the cap and risk a fine.
