If you’re sacrificing even one gun to have “gun” centres, I think it’s going to bite, even long term, not just because Mitchell and Aitken went low this week.
Centres at their best average around 40-50. True guns of the game average 65+
So here’s how I see the back of fag pack maths, in deciding to burn no trades on the position this year, for the first time ever. Using 10pt floor/ceiling ranges where applicable...
Aitken Mitchell pairing to result in average range of 75-85 (the 50 total from this week is possible, but they’ll combine for 100pts at times too). To have this pairing you are going to end up with a top end JFH/Kikau type enabler with an eventual settled average of around 35-45pts
Gun centre comborange = 110-130
Hiku Isaako pairing or any similar combo that you bought cheap and still have is not going to really need a range. They have a points average now of around 70 and will have the same 70 total at year end unless they both end up at full back for an extended run.
The real benefit of them is having an extra 800k gun to go with them for a 55-65 average.
Weak Centre combo range = 125-135
High floor, marginally higher ceiling
Moral to my story will be to scrape through round 13 without pissing around with centre trades
Neither Hiku nor Isaako and probably still not even Kennar are playing, but if you’re fielding 15 players tops anyway, I recommend letting the centres be the ones who miss out this year
