Apparently, guns and cows isn't the way GM. Welcome back btw.
I think this article is absolutely spot on but I would cause it's the way I played last year and it got me a top 40 finish too.
Therefore Im wondering, is it just that this strategy worked last year? or is it a strategy the works most/every year?
Im thinking as a general strategy its pretty good. However it really all does depend on where the value is initially. Last year there were a bunch of cows that were pretty easy picks and you knew you were likely to get great value out of them (several turned into keepers/borderline keepers). Im not so sure this year will be the same from first looks. I think this year looks more like the year of the mid-ranger that might become a gun. My thoughts therefor are that my initial side may not contain a single 'gun' (at gun prices) or at most might just have the one (either Cook or Fifita) and mostly just there as a go-to captain option. The rest will be a combination of the best mid-rangers available (some of whom should turn into guns) and cows.
With the above in mind, I don't think cash generation will be as easy this year and so there will be less room for poor trade decisions and starting team mistakes.
Outside of that though I'll be playing the game basically as the author scripted and hope it works out
