Now that we have a new page, there are 2 key things people should be aware of that were posted earlier in what was a really fast moving stream.

    1. Sione Katoa (Panthers Hooker) was concussed in training and won't play this week, but is expected back next week. Egan will get a start this week.

    2. Apparently Ash Taylor is in doubt, likely means Brimson gets a start.

First game of the season, players a bit rusty & suffering from fatigue. I'm happy with my 2 players. Munster scored 50 but 5 missed tackles so -10 pts. Ofahengaue scored 42 but -8 in negatives. Once these players get their match fitness up I expect the negatives to drop.
It seems Bird is my Hiku of 2019. Like last year I didn't start with Hiku & never traded him in & regretted it. I'll be making Bird my trade in target next week. Someone said last night Bird will be about 330k next week so I might have to rejig my team a bit to raise the cash for a straight trade.

Well done mate getting him. I didn't in fantasy but I did in vsdt so cheer Depending on how Lane plays I might get rid of him for Gillett.

I watched last nights game while working so missed the detail. How was Gillet utilised? 69 min all in the middle?

I wouldn't because at full strength he doesn't make the team. He's only playing because of injuries. He's a wait & see because I'd want to see how their full strength backline would line up.

Up there with OFA and TWAL, just needs minutes and will score well. Only 22 years of age.

Correct he played in the middle for his 69 minutes. The Storm had all the ball so he made a tonne of tackles, 57 to be precise. TPJ played strongly & seemed to get through his shift with no problems re his hammies so Gillett could be back to the edge next week.

    Cheers mate.

Seems like we can put to bed the fears of him being slowly worked back into things post injury though huh!

I missed out on Bird (might need to grab him now) but really happy with Gillet and Macca and Croft went ok for me too.

Last night's game was a good start to the season, luckily not a low fantasy scoring rubbish game.
The Stag and the Bird (must be a pub somewhere in the UK) becoming possible trade targets. Some of the ussual suspects scoring as expected, with CS9 not disappointing. And Gillett returning back to gun level.

And it's always a good night when the Broncos lose Razz

Well, last night wasn't the game to have no one playing at all. My take:

-McCullough did what was expected. Tackle and then get tired from too much tackling. I think three missed tackles in last 15 minutes stopped him scoring 55+. Will average 48-50. Will have the odd 55+ with the odd 45-.
-Ofa's second stint was very good, first was very average. NAS owned the Broncos in the first 20.
-TPJ made a very big difference when on the field, will be a gun once he gets the lock spot. Really needs to be starting at lock or prop. Would be happy if I owned him.
    - Expect Gillett to go to the right edge, thought Su'a was very average. Fifita looked far more likely than Su'a when he came on. Gillett will still be a good pickup but not panicking at present.
-I thought Bird was average for the first 30 minutes, missed tackles (only down for 2), then went on a few crabbing runs to pick up tackle breaks. I wonder if Seibold tells him to not have his first instinct be to cut in and crab. Butchered a potential break with Oates outside unmarked.
-Kotoni Staggs is a gun and if Roberts out long term I will probably pick him up as will be cheaper and expecting similar scores. Broncos centres seemed to get lots of ball.

    Targets: Gillett, TPJ, Bird, Staggs

-Smith is Smith. What a gun, does it all and doesn't even look like he's trying. However, didn't realize his break even was 61 because he averaged 59 last year.
-Brandon Smith was very good. Got more minutes than Welch who was also very good.
-Brodie Croft piqued my interest more than Munster
-Not to worried about Hughes, great player, played awesome, worked hard, without the try just doesn't break enough tackles. Will have some scores below 30 quite consistently.

    Isn't this technically -15 points?

If he makes those 5 tackles he scores 65?

My dementia is playing up haha. Thought he meant Mahe Fonua lol. To answer the question AFB has no upside & will go off before Taupau. He averaged 48 minutes in 2018 & I can't see that changing.

No, I wouldn't change a thing. Chances are you will get an injury that you will need to trade from anyway or a midranger will flop, or an injury to someone will mean a better cash cow will come around. Don't chase last weeks points yet and undo a pre season of work based on 1 game where the ball was in play practically the whole first half. Bird does have the odd game where he misses multiple tackles and may not get attacking stats. If you move heaven and earth to get him would you be happy with a 25 next week?

Last minute changes last night went

    Hughes ---> Garrick
    Napa ---> Tolman

Pretty happy with trading out Hughes right now. Hopefully Napa tanks it and Tolman goes welll now

    Cook (c)
    Fifita, Tolman
    Arrow, Murray, Garner
    Cleary, Morgan
    Bird (50), Holland
    Edwards, CNK, Garrick

    Mahoney, Glasby, Nikora, Keighran

Sivo, Host, Ravalawa, someone else who I can't remember but not Burr.
