That's why I said I'm not talking stats. His best days 'were' on the edge. He does SFA on the edge for 80min stints. He got 100m which going on your measure is the same output. He's lazy on D when he's on the park for those minutes. His real asset is his defence, and I don't mean he makes a mountain of tackles. Defenders around him are more confident and comfortable. His comms on D has also improved our middle defence. He likes to put pressure on playmakers which he did multiple times last season. But his defence isn't as strong on the edge anymore because hard-running edge players with late footwork get the best of his lateral movement. I was watching him in the first round. By the 50th minute he was getting lazy and I saw him multiple times as the last player back to the line. I guarantee once coaches notice it they'll exploit it.
You know stats are based on real things right? Like when he plays prop and runs the ball 4 times, watching him doesn't somehow change that.
Not that I just monitor stats, particularly for the Warriors, since I'm a member and watch them intently each week. Not that I've really been quoting stats either, as you did.
Not all 100 metres are the same. Lillyman was great at putting up 100 empty metres.
"were" because basically any time in his career that he was at prop in his career he has been average. With the ball in hand Blair is more of a finesse player than a grunt work type guy. Basically any time he has gone to prop he has not delivered with the ball.
I'm well aware of his ability on defense, hence why I pointed it out. I'm not advocating for him to play 80 minutes either so....
But I'm definitely not advocating the guy who doesn't like carting the ball up, doesn't bend the line, and loves putting the handbrake on to play prop because he's been shit at it basically his whole career. If you're a prop, it's kind of expected that you cart the ball up. He doesn't. When he was a star he didn't either, at his best he was utilising his offload and was more of a finesse player with the ball. He has never been a consistently strong carrier of the ball in the middle.
For the first time since we had the likes of Rapira, Muts, Packer together the Warriors look like they might have a decent prop rotation. We don't need to ruin that by forcing Blair into a position where he has shown constantly he doesn't belong.
