With Surgess they are going to argue retirement is due to the infection (new injury) has caused loss of bone density and not the existing shoulder injuries. Gillett's sounds more like a niggle than a broken neck, cause they can't use that because he played last year.

Wondering how much the intimidation charge on Surgess weighed into his decision. He would have known it was coming and it falls under the same law as stalking with a maximum 5 years improsionment. Now he will never get that but he would have come nder the leagues No fault stand down policy making it an awkward situation for everybody.

Broncos to hold press conference this morning at 10am. Smart money suggests it is Matt Gillett retirement.

EDIT: Chris Garry just tweeted to confirm it is Gillett's retirement.

EDIT 2: he has now deleted that tweet..

Souths are low on Forward stocks so I would expect Arrow to move into a prop role. Maybe big minutes like Fifita 2017.
Would this mean Lowe grabs a second row spot?? That would be pretty juicy for fantasy standards next year. He can nab a good score.

I guess with Sutton retiring there are two edge spots up for grabs and likely a couple of popular picks in 2020. SuA is another who could score reasonably well in big mins.

So we now have no Surgess & Gurgess so do we now refer to Turgess as just Burgess since we only came up with these nicknames due to multiple playing Burgess'.

Will be surprised to see Turgess get much game time anyways if the Arrow thing is true plus Liam Knight as one prop, Tatola on bench, Nicholls did a good job off the bench last year, then surely 1 x utility and 1 x second row/lock. The game no longer asks for guys like Tom/George Burgess (no longer in the league) who take 4-5 settler's then get benched. NRL is leaning towards nimble, forwards who can break a line and give off quick PTB's

Manly set to table the Turbo's a $12.5 mill offer ($1.5 mill short of what Doggies are offering) which is set to see the Turbo's finish out their career in the northern beaches. Tom expected to be on around 1.1 mil a year and Jake just shy of 7 figures.

Plural of Burgess is Burgi, but I think Turdgess is now just Turd

I tend to disagree. Alot of what Cook and Murray do comes off the back of a strong carry with a fast PTB. George's form obviously went to shit, Tom's somewhat as well, but in form, those types of bodies are always going to be a big part of a teams forward momentum.

The dream is just getting all the attributes in one player, aka Haas

Yes, I see your points, but unlike 2014 when Rabbits and Bulldogs were in the grand final these teams were built off big guys who take a 8 metre carry for the first 3 carries (aka Gurgess, DTyrrell, Tolman, Graham) and then play 4 and 5 were made up of your GI’s, Perrets, AJ’s, Morris’s taking backs runs and scoring in the corner. It might just be me, but I feel the game is calling more for athleticism all around the park with forwards now being built into less of a 120Keg taking a hard hitting run and more a 95-100Kg ball of muscle who can take a run, look for an offload, get on his feet and get off a quick PTB. Haas is one of these people, along with NAS, Fifita (sort of), Arrow, Klemmer has also changed his game to suit this style.

I also don't know if I am dreaming, but I feel we are seeing a lot more tries in the middle of the park. This year I feel forwards were scoring a lot more than usual.

I don’t know what I’m rambling on about haha I guess what I am trying to say is NRL has definitely moved into a new generation of football over the last 5 -7 years all across the park.

Wests have released Matulino medical retirement & Matterson giving them $1.7m in the kitty. Apparently the Eels are after Matterson offering 3 year deal $1.6m.
