Also remember that cookie cutter here is in the context of this relatively small forum of people who probably all spend too much time playing and agonising over fantasy football. Valentine Holmes, for example, is in 20% of teams right now

Some great analysis, Haas really is Mr Consistency!
For Haas to be up to 10 points overvalued, you are saying that the best, most block busting prop, with the biggest motor in the game wouldn't be getting line breaks, tries, or any big minute games. Its like trying to price Reynolds without his kicking meters.
When Haas scores tries as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXJDSLt15fc he is getting shit loads of points:
Try 1 - 5 tackles breaks, 50 meters, line break = 32 points
Try 2 - 3 tackle breaks, 10 meters, line break = 22 points
Try 3 - 3 tackle breaks, 20 meters, line break = 23 points
Try 4 - 1 tackle break, 10 meters, line break = 16 points
Its just a matter of is he going to get 4 or 10+ tries this season.
No doubt Haas is an absolute freak, he displays footwork at his size that has rarely been seen before (Taumalolo was similar when he burst onto the scene)
I do think it's an argument that he is the most damaging ball runner in the comp but lets compare him to some similar forwards and their try scoring outputs
Taumalolo - Since becoming a big minute middle forward in 2016 Taumalolo has scored 6, 4, 4 and 3 tries. It could be argued that teams are focusing more heavily on him knowing how dangerous he can be
Andrew Fifita - Break out season in 2013 with 9 tries, since then has scored the following number of tries in a season; 0, 7, 3, 1, 3, 2. It has been shown teams are focusing on Fifita more in defense committing 3+ defenders nearly every time he touches the ball
If you think Haas is going to score 10 tries in a season you need to severely lower your expectations. With a full season of tape to study there is no doubt he will be a defensive focus for every team in the competition

Most will have a core that's very similar to Chewie, that can't be avoided. I have Cleary instead of Moses and I don't have McInnes (even though from the very beginning I wanted him as one of my first picked), or Mann (still tempted though)..
You can't really argue with any of the selections, I don't feel like group think comes into those choices, they are just obviously strong selections.
Yeah that’s exactly my point, even though there are always complaints about teams looking alike, they do so because coaches are all adept enough to be picking from the same pool of players their recognise as ‘good picks’. The combinations may differ slightly but it is generally the same players (and the ones that others will include will be ones that just miss the cut for me and vice versa). I rarely go for the Hail Mary player nobody else is on to start the season with just because it’s a way to define my team and get ahead, because the low ownership is for very good reason.

I've been busy the last few days and haven't had a chance to read the forum.
Is there anything that I've missed?

About 25 pages of Haas vs no Haas with some very good arguments from both sides

I found the Renegades website about the same time as footystatistics.com and a few weeks before lurking here last season. Definitely helpful. Very sad news, much too young.

With all this team planning, I hope you've all remembered to plan your ways around Valentines Day to free yourself up for the first evening of the 9s.

OMG, I just emailed him on Friday. I thought it was odd he hadnt replied - anything fantasy related, Steve pretty much dropped everything
He and I started meeting for coffee and fantasy chats last year, I dont know him well but we had a joint team together in Super Coach. He and I both work at Otago University.
He was the most committed person to NRL fantasy I've met (fantasy sports in general to be honest). The year before last he won the Manly comp, a massive Manly supporter, he got to go to a game with a back stage pass, meet players etc. Im stoked for him he got to do that!
He was a great dude and had a fantastic attitude to the health struggles he was going through. He had a wife and kids, it's devastating....
@Loomer, where did you find out mate - I'd like to attend his funeral.
Bloody so sad but thanks for sharing mate. Nice little memoir and insight to the man.

Thankfully she hates the commercialism of it all and would rather just go to dinner/etc on any other night of the year.

Thanks mate I appreciate it. Actually had a bit of a cry in the office upon reading the renegades tribute to him this morning. Always tough to lose a life so young, even if its one you didnt know very well, but bloody tough when children lose a parent, not to mention the loss his wife now faces. Very sad times. I'll go to the funeral and if I get a chance to meet his wife I'll do my best to share what I suspect in most cases, was the impact he had online with communities such as ours. A true great in our 'world' and I think the term 'Fantasy King', used in the renegades post is pretty spot on. A humble one at that, and extremely helpful and generous with his time. Not much more to say I guess.

You are a good guy, respect. It would mean alot to the family to hear from someone like you in the community to let them know how much he meant to alot of other people that he has meet through fantasy.
