Re: Draft Game 2016 v1
These were my rankings with reasonings...
Team Beast
Best front row in the game, 2 top 3 props I think this is an easy statement to make! Sandwiched between them Luke, his star might not be shining so bright as in years past but he is a quality rake who lb for lb might be the strongest guy in the NRL, you played the waiting game well landed with a great hooker in Luke
Good edge forwards in Harris and Wade G. …Harris works his socks off and Wade has a great running game. LOLO we all know is a beast and ties the 2 second rowers in well, a great combo
Cracking half pairing, I thought Cronk was on the outer of his career until origin 3 where he showed how much he was missed. Great player, Hunt a great pairing and key reason for the broncos great season, watch he doesn’t drop his lollies again though
The backs I think have suffered a tad due to the star power in the front row and halfs, Holmes is electric and has the connection with Graham which helps, Tupou is good but nothing special and recently lost his place in origin to will hopoate…
Lyon I think is still the premier CTR in the NRL great pick, wighton I think is a better FB than CTR but still a great young player both great defensively as well!
BMorris is a Gun and an injury affected stint in his first year in the FB gig went very well, when he wasn’t injured)
Mcguire and Thaiday both stuck on the bench is a great problem to have, great picks, I can see what you are doing with Sutton and I works a good compliment to Harris and Graham, although Sutton I feel can be lazy might be better off starting him to keep him motivated
The grub king off the bench offers plenty of versatility
All round great team with no holes
Ranking 1 points 6
Team Random
The Gun backs….
WOWsers extra credit for grabbing James Tedesco, what that guy has done in that complete shower of shit the Tigers is remarkable, Semi train what can you say an absolute try scoring machine, whilst rona scored a hat full last year he isn’t what I would consider elite but he doesn’t need to be with semi on the other side, he just needs to fall over the line!
Jmoz ever consistent and bulldogs reunion with Lafai who is quality
SJ absolute class, can win games on his own, just not sure Morgan is a fantastic compliment to him as good as he is SJ has a very different game to the more structured one of JT in which Morgan excels in
Love Fifita, Tb’s and offloads galore creating second phase ball which will suit SJ running off his shoulder, George Burgess an absolute tank
Not a huge fan of Granville, especially without a bench hooker dynamic hookers like him don’t last as long in the game and become less effective
Love Scott great fit and adds an edge to your back row, ET will tackle all day and is an underrated ball player, love de belin, big motor, carries hard and tackles all day, just think think you are missing a big name player here
Good bench, love Vaughan hugely under rated big props here excuse the pun, glenn a classy back rower who doesn’t decrease your sides quality coming on, Think you needed more of an impact prop coming off the interchange (you already have Vaughan as your worker) and I rate Vaughan higher than Jturbo who is pretty similar IMO. Masoe can be deadly but you need to make sure you have possession when he is on because he will tire if forced to tackle all day and become less effective
Really like the balance in this team Ted, SJ, Semi…deadly
Ranking 2 points 5
Team Bren
A stud line-up let down with players not playing in natural positions, Bren has built a top quality side but I think has focused on BIG shiny names and not picking a better position player which helps overall team dynamic
Whilst Burgess is an absolute gem his best position is not prop, great front row rotation Scott was once the best prop in the NRL but now is dropping off after a wonderful career but is still a monster, Farah I won’t go there haha but as a whole that pack is a beast, great back row
Most important positions in the backline filled by 1 Mediocre half, and 1 good half well under the elite tier this I feel hurts the team. Moylan while ridiculously classy is not a top 5 FB…yet his versatility is a big help though! 4 CTRS in the backline again filling spots with class players in non natural positions, although any combination of those 4 guys in the CTR could give you the best CTR pairing in this comp
Peachy off the bench is a frightening thought after that pack has done its work, great pick up, Tamou and Turgess flying in after scott and Burgess have done their work great options but Lillyman is a wasted pick with that pack make up just being a plodder. Farah not playing 80 minutes these days no bench hooker is a problem
All in all even with the multiple guys out of position, it still is a great side filled with stars
Rating 3 points 4
Team SI
Absolute wrecking crew in the backrow, my favourite backrow in the draft and then Taupau to come on there will be some sore opposition bodies, middle of the road starting/bench prop rotation (in comparison) although Tauk and Gall can go all day, as well as cooper so does make it for it, then you have Seg running off your big guys. Nice. An impressive pack
A Rey has the best kicking game in the competition so big props there and Austin as dangerous as anyone in the league in open play, lack of kicking game to compliment Arey hurts a tad
RTS what do I need to say? Mansour a beast on the wing, but does he have the rugby saavy enough to be following RTS around in support, more of a do it your own tank not that, that is a bad thing!
Munster unproven as a CTR at the NRL level but a classy player who no doubt will flourish there, which Hurrell do you get each game?
Ranking 4 points 3
Team Krump
Best half pairing in this competition and much like CS9. JT rules all! We have already seen the devastating effect Morgans run game has had, well Milfs is superior so I can only imagine the carnage this pairing would cause!
Do not like Coote on the wing, cant utilise his great kicking game and hasn’t got the power most wings possess this day and age, same with Boyd, not his best position he doesn’t have GI/Hodges inside him here this isn’t origin
Great CTR pairing, both attacking weapons, don’t think Croker gets the love he should. Chambers is class
As good as Klemmer is I think he is best suited to an interchange role where he is an absolute weapon! Blair whilst doing well in a great donkeys side is not a top tier prop, Ennis is Ennis, you know what you are going to get
Love Hoffman, great player probably has the best running game of any edge forward, always picks it up at origin level as well! Cartwright gives you that ex factor, Bird like ennis you know what you are going to get and you need these players in your team!
Love the hitman cracking young player only getting better, and hitting harder, Hannant whilst he used to be one of the top props in the game is no longer near that level, his days of bears just hitting up in the middle are being taken over by giants with nimble feets and offloading games. Lewis is still good and a great presence coming off our bench
Ranking 5 points 2
Team Quicksand
Great front row Woods and Tolman can go all day, there might not be much in the way of offloads creating second phase play, but these guys are tops props who will tackle their hearts out and put their bod on the line every play!
Don’t have Macca rated as high as some other hookers because I don’t think he offers enough, don’t get me wrong he is a great hooker and will tackle all day and won’t let you down though
Fensom is a workhorse and tackles all day, again there is a common theme here in your pack a lot of work horses not enough x factor IMO Mannering is a great player and a pack leader, Jackson a good edition and classy edge forward
Great half Paring, a nice mix of off the cuff brilliance and steady structured play, good kicking games my favourite part of this team
The backs is where I think this team falls over unfortunately, Mata’utai and Trbojevic one has barely played in the first grade although has flashed some brilliance, the other seemingly stuck in a poor side where he can’t fully flourish so tough to see how good he really is
Walker is class and a genuine game breaker, but as good as Solly was last year he just isn’t a CTR at this stage in his career
Gordon at FB isn’t an upper tier player at FB although a very good one, with the lack of size in your wingers & FB think they would struggle bringing the ball back
decent interchange, although slightly undersized and would struggle with only 1 prop
Ranking 6 Points 1
Team Beast

Technically he didn't because you can't read clear instructions haha. Must be a Broncos thing, the grand final ball also had a "Handle with care" warning but do ya think Ben Hunt listened?

Re: Draft Game 2016 v1
Yep, well done Random. Inaugural Fanatics Draft Champion!
My votes were:
Beast 4
Random 3
Welshy 2
Bren 1
Even if I could have voted for myself I would not have had my team above those 4.
Quicksand, you have potentially the best actual Fantasy team there, but I think you were picking early on exactly in that fashion, instead of picking a team that would go out tomorrow and play another team NOT for Fantasy points?
Krumpy, I honestly can't put my finger on it overall, but just wasn't feeling it. I know that's not a fair justification, but it's just what it was.

Cant be bothered to do a write up on everyones team as the game is done and dusted but my top 4 were
Random
SI
Beast
Krump
I think that was the order anyway. If anyone wants a personal evaluation of their side and why I voted that way then Ill post it up but will be busy with work etc today.

Hey quicksand. After your first few brilliant Fantasy pick ups (Woods/Mannering etc) we were a bit concerned you thought that way, so we tried to pull you up here. I just assumed you'd seen this.SI wrote:quicksand wrote:Bren wrote:

huh.....what ?
what is it for then ?
It's an in house draft game, that's all it is.

As much as I tried preparing the rules by leaving it open for a week before starting the Draft, I should have given a better description of the purpose. I think when we do the next draft, whoever runs it, we need to emphasise that it's a "collect your best team on paper to play tomorrow" type scenario.quicksand wrote:SI wrote:

A big thankyou to Honeysett for collating the votes and posting an early nominee for Meme of the Year.
If you were to win said Meme of the Year, we would of course have to announce someone else as the winner first (probably Your Name) before admitting the mistake
