Its being reported by all the main journos on twitter. It is done. NRL will have already emailed them an internal release I would assume.

There is a 6:10 press conference (in 15 mins) by the NRL which will be the official official confirmation

Given how adamant the NRL were before this announcement, I would say ScoMo has told them that it wont be possible to continue as they are about to go to the same lock down as NZ has. Would expect an announcement on that for Australia tomorrow.

This is true. Really thought they would go ahead with the Gladstone approach but maybe they couldn't work out a way to do it by Wednesday night.

The NRL season has been suspended indefinitely effective immediately.

On an unprecedented day for the game, the NRL has scheduled a chief executives hook-up in the next hour that will decide that the competition has been postponed.

It follows another dramatic day where the closing of the Queensland borders ultimately put the NRL’s hopes of playing on notice.

The NRL also forced staff to take forced annual leave while clubs across the game had to make huge staffing cuts.

The Australian Rugby League Commission had a midday meeting Monday but it was after that news greeted them relating to the tough new border restrictions that hit like a sledgehammer.

It is understood these new restrictions will prove an impossible barrier for the NRL to now get over as Australia’s shutdown of nonessential services becomes a reality.

The league had already stubbornly strived to continue as dozens of other sporting leagues around the world shut down in order to help contain the deadly pandemic.

Numerous unorthodox solutions were proposed, including relocating the entire competition to country Queensland, or splitting the league into two conferences for the remainder of the season.

However, the challenge has proven too great and the Titans-Eels match on Sunday night will be the final fixture for some time.

It is expected to be a hammer blow to many clubs, with several now facing a daunting and uncertain future as the league scrambles to deal with the loss of income.
