    NRLFF Fantasy 2006 Part 1 - Let's get retro Empty NRLFF Fantasy 2006 Part 1 - Let's get retro

Post by Milchcow Mon Mar 23, 2020 7:08 pm

Is anyone interested in participating in a fantasy comp based on the 2006 fantasy season?

First things first, as this has already happened there would be a certain amount of honour involved to not just cheat and go look up the mathematically best team and go from there.
But assuming everyone who plays does so in the spirit in which it is intended, here's the vague plan

I have the following stats available for every week of the 2006 NRL season
Tackles, Offloads, Kicks, Line breaks, Metres gained, Errors, field goals, goals, tries

I will use these stats to create a fantasy-like scoring system, and people will create fantasy teams on which to compete in the season.

Team structure TBA (might just be a straight 17 scores because running NPRs and subs might be too hard, will see how it goes)
There will be a salary cap based on 2005 stats (with a possible cowhub price boost for players that would otherwise be autopicks given everyone knows in general how the season went)

Will update scores and table probably simulating 2/3 NRL rounds a week, and give people opportunity to make some trades (exact trading system tba, not sure if/how I would update prices)

Suggestions on how to run things welcome, nothing is really set in stone yet, but a lot will depend on what is possible for me to do, and how many people want to play.

If you want to play, post your interest here, and assuming there are enough starters, I'll put up a price list later in the week

I was thinking similar, love the idea! Will have a bit of any player you have never heard of wont get picked, while Cam Smith will get picked by everyone, knowing who he became.

Definitely onboard for the honour system of not checking how players did. Makes research kind of hard though. Could you make the previous 2004 and 2005 stats available to be able to do it from? If not, maybe start a year or 2 later so we have enough data to work from?

For 2004/2005 I don't have complete scoring, but I have a yearly summary, which I will be using to create prices, and that will be fair game for looking at for team creation.

Cam Smith was pretty good in 2005 averaging 38.9 tackles and 69 run metres so he'd be one of the more expensive players in the game, and possibly (hopefully) not an autopick.

Greg Inglis debuted in 2005 playing just 13 games, so he'd possibly need an artificial price inflation to stop everyone getting him

Yeah I’ll give it a crack. 2005-09 are my lost years for footy - basically I watched a lot less NRL and did a lot more getting shitfaced at Kings Cross. So a lot of this may surprise me!

We can even select the legend Scott Minto. Such a great player in his prime that our survivor tribe was named after him.
