Broncos rotated hookers quite a lot in 2006. McGuire, Ennis, Berrigan all spent significant amounts of time as starter. From memory Berrigan started from about round 15 on wards and didn't give up the position all to way to whatever finals position the Broncos ended up with

Thanks mate. Might get a few weeks our of McGuire then. Hopefully he can scrap some reasonable scores somehow.

It's the accountant in me that see's it as a percentage but points per game is correct as well.

I am not sure on his exact minutes, but in round 3 he kicked 8 goals from the bench, so I am betting he got decent game time.

He's down my pecking order too. Having hlf to his name helps his case too. Hopefully he plays 60 minutes and somehow can at least get 30-35 for a couple of weeks.

There seems to be a lot of injuries in 2006 with players out left, right & centre & players playing different positions due to this. Also there are a lot a lopsided results & teams getting thrashed. Were the players softer then or are today's players just more professional & look after their bodies better. I'd imagine in 2006 getting on the piss was quite common but today they basically don't drink.

You'd have to think conditioning has got better. No one likes money on the bench

How long was the salary cap in effect in 2006. It seems to be a success because in 2020 the teams seem more even & we don't see teams thrashing other teams.

I think the final ladder in those days was fairly even, there were a few seasons where last managed 8-9 wins, so the salary cap worked in that respect... when the Dogs or Storm weren't ignoring it.

But week-to-week there were some massive blowouts and turnarounds. Maybe some of it was the greater injuries and lack of conditioning? They did go back from unlimited interchange a few years before this, so players adjusting to more minutes could've been an issue.

The other thing was scores were really inflated in the early 2000s. Again probably players not being as fit to maintain defense. But also benefit of the doubt for tries was quite generous back then?

Souths were still crap because they'd only been back in the comp a couple of years and it took them a little while to get a first grade squad together

But from season to season the comp was fairly even - different teams made the finals all the time (especially if you exclude those cheating the cap)

Speed of the ruck was way quicker as well. This was around the time teams started hiring wrestling coaches to slow down the ruck and the emphasis was put on play the ball speed. Quick play the balls mean less time to set the defence and plenty of tries
