Name 3 centers that score as well in 2020 as Hodges, Gaz and Bell were in 2006.filthridden wrote:
Sure they had Hodges, Cooper, Gasnier... but they also had George Carmont, Tony Martin and Yileen Gordon... it evens out!

Based on this competition's stats? I Have no idea... also we're two rounds into 2020 so I don't really think that's a fair ask

Lets use 2019 then, top centers, Momo, Xerri, Marsters, not in the same league.

Only Latrell fantasy wise in this format I reckon. Was a golden generation of real life CTRs in this time

You've calculated their stats based on this comp already? I'm impressed.

Had a quick look based on this comp's stats and Kotoni staggs would be averaging almost 70 after two games (a bit cheating, he had a hat trick). James Roberts has put out a 40 without a try, even Darius Boyd has made 30+ without a try.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with there were some top end centres back then. It was a great era all round.

Of the current centers, Xerri is the one guy that could hit the heights of the top guys in 2006, but isn't there yet. Latrell has never been consistent enough.

Joined in just in time to see 2 incredible plays from Johns. Some great footwork to put Thaiday through the gap then an effortless 25 metre out ball to Gidley

Feels like the Dragons are constantly on their line here, they're doing well to keep the Knights out.

He wouldn’t need to be he would go over 100 multiple times in this format. Your not looking at bigger picture either Gasnier has 2 hat tricks in 5 games, Bell has 5 or 6 in 5 games. Unsustainable over season, Hodges, Gasnier and Cooper were the pure CTR guns but still not used as frequently as Mannering Smith etc back in the day. its this format rewarding tries and line breaks over the standard we are used to pumping their scoresmattnz wrote:Of the current centers, Xerri is the one guy that could hit the heights of the top guys in 2006, but isn't there yet. On the centres the game has completely changed since that era. Centres are now one of the least important positions, where previously you couldn't win a comp without a strike centre. Some all time greats in that era with Gasnier, Hodges, Cooper, Lyon, Inglis. Even the tier down of Vagana, Tonga, Gidley, Hannay, Bowman were incredible players
Talent wise Latrell and Manu are the only 2 I can see hanging with that elite group atm.

Watch how quick the play the balls are in this game. Plenty of front foot ball for offloads and line breaks. I'd guess line breaks per game are much higher in 2006 vs 2020
