Michael Maguire controversially drops club legend Benji Marshall after Titans loss

The Herald has been told by sources close to the Tigers that a fed-up Maguire wielded the axe in response to his side's last-minute loss to the Gold Coast, making up to six changes for this week's clash against Canberra

None is more controversial than the decision to drop the club's most iconic player in what is expected to be his final season in the NRL. It's unclear what Maguire will officially name on Tuesday afternoon, however he has already informed Marshall that he will not feature in this week's line-up.

Josh Reynolds, who hasn't played in the past fortnight, will be the beneficiary of Marshall's shock axing, set to partner Luke Brooks in the halves when they take on last year's grand finalists on Saturday.

Cook really interests me. Hasn’t had a TA, LBA, Try or LB all year and is hitting 70’s since coming back from the break. Rabbits have versed Sharks, Broncos, Roosters, Storm and have Titans, Warriors, Panthers and Dogs in the next 4…
Although his tackle count might come down from the high 40’s he might make up for that with some more attacking stats. Has gone from averaging 62 metres a game to 88 mpg since the return. With Latrell possibly coming into form in the next 4 weeks he could be about to go gangbusters…

Very tempting… DCE for 32k less and similar scoring sounds alright too. Maybe Cook can come in later at a cheaper price possibly?

I posted my team in the assistant coach thread a few hours ago. Have got no feedback yet but any advice would be much appreciated.

My theory as to why Papenhuyzen can't nail those tb's & lb's.....he's so small defenders can just use 1 arm to grab him & throw him to the ground easily because he's a lightweight. There is no way they'd be able to do that to Tedesco or Turbo who are much bigger.

Maguire has lost the plot although he seems a very hard-nosed coach who you don't want to cross.

He averaged 7tbs in 80min games last year.
This year he's averaging half of that.

    Are you saying he shrunk?

fitting that JTB and Burr are paired together considering I've held off JTB as his value has soared, waiting for the inevitable drop back to the bench that turns out to be very evitable, just like Burr last year.

Momo at Melb for now. However, think you could be onto something with ET and maybe an MCK inclusion. Either way, only players that are solid as last week were Twal and Grant. Some others (eg. Nofa) were good but not spectacular. Then you've got Rowdy (club legend but past it) and Rob Jennings that need to bow out 100%
