I mean, I tick both cliché boxes of being in finance and growing up with league, but knowing the real life game can sometimes get in the way of fantasy decisions. It's almost like I run an ethical investment portfolio and while I know Lachlan Lewis gets mass kick metres and Wade Egan is a cheap starting hooker I won't be investing in them thank you very much because they morally devalue my whole portfolio. For a long time I avoided the Turbos because Manly players have to jump through extra hoops of due diligence to make the cut.

Clinging on to the fact that the thing about ethical investments now is they generally outperform the market.

Love it. I'm the cliche AFL man myself with the MCC pass & strategy consulting job so i get how this COVID season is impossible to deal with emotions because it's all just very different.

very easy here to go - okay 90% of people here have traded out XXX, lets see what i can do with that

Ignore the tries that boosted last weeks score because it is already gone, I'd be surprised if he scores 2 tries in a game for the rest of his career

Ignoring that game he averages 59 as a starter and priced at 55. In his price range(let's call it 730k and under) I prefer JFH, Tevaga(in a few weeks), Brown, Hunt, Taupau. If you can squeeze a little bit of extra cash I prefer SJ, Munster, Klemmer, Fifita
Well if you ignore just the points he got from tries last week then he still would've scored 79 points and averaged 63.2 as a starting hooker this year

Who would be better out (or more likely to play 80 minutes) out of Hunt (at hooker) and Brown?

Something I hadn't really considered but might become a consideration now. Who to play in centres out of Talau or Averillo if he is good to go? You'd have to stick with Talau against Broncos I guess?

Can't just take away 8 points per try. Pretty sure all 6 TB's were accumulated from both of his tries last week (let's just say three TB's to be sure). Take away the two LB's you get when scoring a try.

    That leaves 62 Smile

It's not just the 8 points from tries. He also got given 2 linebreaks (-8 ) and multiple tackle breaks (-12)

That is the magic question of the week. Brown is the safer option in terms of point scoring (will score well while he is on the field), but could be injured or suspended at any time

Hunt if playing 80 at hooker and kicking for 300 metres each week will score more points than Brown, but his minutes are the concern.

Personally I would go with Brown because you at least know he will get points while on the field. Hunt could easily serve up a 35 in 60 minutes, or he could score 70 points in 80 minutes

Thrashed Sharks last week and he only got 30 odd too hmm. Will still probably go with him with his ceiling. Rudolf probably end up with 30-40 and who knows how Fermor will go against a Storm thrashing

Luai got a pretty quiet score last week given how well the Panthers went but I'd still back him for the possibility he could rack up some good attacking stats. He usually finds a try for Crichton on a weekly basis now and he could always go for a run himself.

Has better potential to go boom than the other two. Fermor is going to get targeted big time in defence.

    Nice!

Was actually thinking last week it’s weird how you don’t see many newbie questions nowadays.

Figuring there are so many pages and so much information out there as opposed to 10 years ago. Probably my the most common question in the early days was “what are base stats?”

The other reason maybe that Fantasy isn’t really attracting that many new players.

I'm an AFL man 100% and done AFL fantasy for last 3 years

Joined in NRL Fantasy this year to try to beat my mates who all live in QLD

I barely watch 1 game/week (only when an AFL game isn't on), have barely any idea of players names who aren't from origin, and yet am ranked 1,500 thanks to the help of this thread hahaha

So there may still be newbies, we're just lurking and learning

Streets ahead of my rank this year and I’ve been playing for a dozen years now! Also played till I was 17 and grew up in diehard League towns in NQ.

I remember getting a PM from LB about 6 years ago asking how to play as he didn’t have a League background, bloke hasn’t stopped since! Although he probably could have chosen a better person to ask for pointers Embarassed

Diehard when they're winning. You don't hear peep from them when they're losing.

Aren't 99% of the people here involved in finance/computers haha ? (Myself excluded)
Didn't watch much league at all until I came to Australia about 10 years ago with nothing more than a backpack, never played the game, left school at 15 and no finance degree in sight.
Closest thing to a pool I have is the puddle the dog made near the back door.

I feel way out of my depth compared to most with statistics, spreadsheets, trends analysis, graphs,Stock market principles, day trading etc

But I see things ok, and if I can without all those real life money ball advantages that most do with their day job, then no reason most can't see the same.
Or for you computer money nerds apply that financial shit to NRL fantasy haha

The amount of Accountants we worked out that we had on here was ridiculous. Explains the dry sense of humours though.

I tend to follow the herd around here most times but I like to go with my gut when it comes down to the tough decisions or picking a player I like better than that whom is flavour of the week.. some times it pays off some times it doesn't. This year it is paying off and I am having the best year I have ever had. I feel I have kept the right cows around in time for their big score and sold off cows in time before they leak cash (except Mann).

Haha, yeah, I meant more it’s just all about League and not a lot else.

I don't know why attacking stats have to be excluded but you're right there would have been the points from line breaks and tackle breaks

Will Brown keep playing 80 minutes though or was last week just a one-off?

Well the other weeks when Hunt was playing 60 minutes were from the bench but now he's actually starting hooker might mean that he doesn't come off.
Dragons also had a big win last week with Hunt playing 80 minutes at hooker so maybe McGregor will want to keep doing that.
