Main issue is that dogs have a bit of forward depth and not sure he has a long term starting spot (or even a short term one)

Take a few missed tackles off his first game from memory and he would have cracked a good score. Round 2 was a write off.

We are working on the assumption that Tigers want a specialist fullback, why they have pushed hard to get Laurie early. Mbye just stepped down as captain and makes a great versatile 14 option on the bench. Covers the backs and hooker. The expectation would be Laurie fullback, Mbye 6 to fill in for round 1.

Hmm, interesting. Awesome if the assumption comes to fruition, but certainly not without risk to pick him up for round one. Obviously if that eventuates he'd be definite acquisition for round two, but pending anything concrete pre-round one, and considering his low price, he sounds like someone I'll be waiting for round two to consider.

But, interesting nevertheless. Thanks for the lowdown.

I still hope Madden gets 6 for Rd 1 and Mbye plays 14.

I don’t believe Mbye provides much at 6. He’d be better at 1. Madden would be GK in AD’s absence. Our spine is pretty shit and we are playing Canberra in Canberra. I don’t think it will matter much who plays where.

I've only played a couple of years, but if I'm not mistaken we're always allowed the luxury of each player's BE before round one? But not this year.

If I'm honest it's not a big deal but it's always nice to have that info if it's there.

On footystatistics.com, just use the "priced at" figure.
it's the same thing as round 1 BE.

Seems like to have an overall chance of finishing the year well you need close to a cookie cutter team to start the year. Make your moves later.
So how do I figure out what that cookie cutter team that is talked about is? I'm asking because I'm not sure this has been decided this year.

So many guns on here the cookie cutter is always the way to start. Got to get lucky with the guns you pick starting season better than other gun options like a Cleary/DCE/Moses debate to get a head start

Pick most the cows which are 80/90% already in the cookie cutter side, make the right decision on middies who explode to gun status and dump the duds early

Plenty of people have put their sides on this site. A lot are similar. Lots of value potentially in 2RF along with the Big 4. Cleary, Munster, Teddy, Paps etc. Cook /Grant at hooker. Centres are anyone’s guess.

So far mate I reckon this team will be include 80/90% of players that the majority of this forum start season with

    GUN or JBrailey
Lodge/LAM, Gilbert (if starting edge), GUN (Lolo early front runner)
    GUN, Riki/Blore
    GUN, Lam/CHT/Brooks
    Averillo, pick a middie
    TTurbo, Moylan/Niu, Laurie or GUN

    Watson
    Riki/Blore
    Liddle
    Lodge/LAM
JBrailey if went GUN in Hooker
    CTR/WFB cover
    Half Cover
    Edge cover

Just shows why I think there's not really a cookie cutter team this year.

I think a big part of it was that he just looked terrible on the eye test last year - especially on attack. Racked up 32 lacklustre metres before being subbed off with ten to go in the first game.
Then an almost embarrassing 7 metres before being injured after about 30 minutes in the second.
Whether he was a bit underdone to start the season, who knows. Either way, probably still serviceable at basement price if he got a start (and at least we all have a clear picture on his floor).

Some good young edges coming through at the Dogs though - Doorey, Roumanos and Topine

Pretty much every year imo. The key to the start of the season is to not fuck your year up. As long as you are in the mix after 4 or 5 rounds then you can start to make big moves mid season.

Important not to stress over 1 or 2 positions if the bulk of your squad is in good shape. You can carry a shitty player for a couple of weeks, rather than force trades that aren't entirely necessary. Obviously if a really good cow turns up you jump on, but you dont need to grab every one, and there will always be a new one next week or the week after.

On the flip side, sometimes you just need to take a risk and go with your gut... so.. my advice.. ahh.. have fun

Just going to post my latest draft to hopefully create discussion:

    J Brailey
    Taumololo (vc), Lodge, Watson
    DFifita, Gilbert/Ford
    Cleary (c), Lam
    Kelly, Marsters
    Tedesco, RTS, Trbojevic

    Liddle, Kolomatangi, Davey, Riki

    Blore, Averillo, Niu, DLaurie

My thoughts: Out of Hass, McInnes and Cleary for captain, Cleary is the one with the least question marks. Will also consider Munster and DCE as gun halves if GK.
Hard to leave out all of McInnes, Cook and Grant but hoping Brailey can score around 50. Watson, Liddle provide cover.
Taumololo seems like the no brainer gun pick as middle (better value than Haas). Also considered Angus and Harris, but ended up with David Fifita down in edge for cheaper.
Went with tackle breakers/offloaders with Kelly and Marsters (think he will bounce back this year with more ad-lib style footy played by Cowboys).
Fullbacks are guns, think RTS averages 55 this year in a better Warriors outfit.
