It wouldn't surprise me - like you said, Barrett already has some insight on him from his time at Manly, plus he's got good ball skills for a forward, which I imagine should be desirable when you're coaching a club that has traditionally struggled to generate good attack.

Going to actually back my preseason pick and start with BMM.

Every year I back and back and back a SL import and don't start with them only for the majority to do so and look back and laugh at me!

Well not this year, Georgie Williams, Elliott Whitehead and Bateman! Jokes on you now boys!!

    G'wan BMM son!

Is anyone else swayed somewhat in picks because of what a player is like off the park? Like I don't think I'll ever pick Lodge no matter how good he gets in fantasy.

Your morals don't get effected by fantasy picking cunts mate, if he's a decent option in fantasy pick him for that reason

I'm more swayed by what people say on here. After some posts today, I've been thinking about Wadell, McCullough and Egan.

But that is nowhere near enough upside. I would have Bird, Roberts, Walker, Momirovski, and even Esan Marsters ahead of him in similar price range

As always @milchcow, words of wisdom from the top paddock.
Who would you pick between Roberts and Walker as centre option?

Both have a long injury history, Roberts probably higher frequency

I haven't considered either for Fantasy, but in VSDT and Supercoach where half one's team is centres, I have picked Roberts in both teams but not considered Walker. If I think about it sensibly, would I be right in thinking Walker might actually generally score better in base stats? But I can see that Roberts would have more potential to go boom with an explosive run or two that might eclipse Walker's average scoring.

Would it be valid to guess that Roberts almost definitely has a higher ceiling, but probably also a lower floor? I could see him dropping a single digit score for sure. Walker, probably not quite as much.

Anyway... just a few rambles. No sense to it. Wink

Nah mate.  Doesn't make you a bad person or doesn't mean you are going against your morals picking them.  If Lodge was Haas last year, would you be happy plummeting down the rankings not having him?  And also being the only person that doesn't have him.  Separate the game from your feelings.

I came to that same conclusion owning him at the back end of last year. He's a Mr Fix-it for the edges which makes him a little unreliable for Fantasy IMO.
    Handsome too Laughing

Yep it was frustrating owning him because he shifted to the edge or the centres frequently.
Still finished the year with a 50's average though.

Doesn't really matter over the course of a season. Just pick the one you think will score more points over the year. Based on that, I go Roberts.

Who are people’s 3rd FB? None really grab me south of Gutherson. All other positions seem to have plenty of value so I’m going 3 guns (or close) with Laurie 18-21.

Macca was in my 2020 team at the restart and I thoroughly enjoyed the run, almost made 200k at a 65ppg avg, until the injury hit. My gut says not to pick him this season.
Egan just doesn't excite me... not keen on picking a hooker who is probably going to score 40-45pts on avg priced at 33pts. He'll probably score 60pts the first round to lure people into the trap.

Yeah, 100% same for me too. I've had Lodge since my first draft and haven't yet thought about dumping him. His off-field antics never once were a factor, to be honest.

This same discussion comes up every now and then with music, whether you'd stop listening to a band because of what an artist does outside of the music. I guess the most note-able case being Michael Jackson. As I always say in the discussion, I actually quite like the band Lostprophets. Lead singer is currently serving 35 years for child sex offences, so he could perish for all I care... but it never once affected the songs of theirs I enjoy.

Anyway, bit of a tangent, but the short answer for me was also no, I very easily do not let off-field incidents affect my preference for a player.

I wasn't thinking of Egan initially but he's been in my team since the Warriors version of the Talking League podcast dropped. Nothing in particular forced my hand... just got a good vibe. I'm sure I'll live to regret it if I keep him in my team.
