He will score more points than he is priced at? Career average of 32 at 5/8, priced at 23 and not next to a known kicker

Yeah I know that he’s one to consider but how long til he breaks down....

mrbrownstone wrote:Really going back and forth on Welch. On the plus side, he's 26, touching on 100 first grade games, coming off another origin series, should be somewhere near his physical prime & prime as a first-grader, no Finucane, Grant, Tino. Seems the most likely candidate to pick up bigger minutes over JBrom/NAS.

On the other hand, his long-term average in 50-70 minutes (to exclude an outlier 79 in 73 minutes at lock in 2018) is 47.6, priced at 40 not quite enough.

In 50-70 mins last year, that jumps to 51. But even then he had three straight 39s, two of which came in blow-outs against the Titans & Bulldogs (42-6, 41-10), where had his two lowest tackle counts at starting prop for the year. A low tackle-count blowout is not exactly unlikely with Broncs and Canterbury in their first 5 games before Finucane returns.

Then, in a few of the games where he did score well in bigger mins, the bench looked like this:

vs Eels: Eisenhuth (39 min), Vete (18 min), Hynes (34 min), Schonig (5 min)

vs Rabbits: Schonig (36 min), Lewis (18 min), Vete (15 min), Hynes (0 min)

vs Dragons: Storm C team, he was the only regular first grade starting forward.

Then again, he also scored well in bigger mins against the Roosters, Eels (FW1), and Panthers (GF) with essentially full-strength rotations, which is a spanner in that theory.

Can anyone sway me one way or the other?
I still prefer NAS. All other things being equal, he has a much higher PPM, so an extra 10 minutes for each would increase NAS's scoring by more. Last season NAS only needed 40+ minutes to average near keeper scores (58 average) and plays round 13 when he should get lots of minutes when Origin players are gone. Would be surprised to see Welch get near keeper level scores, even playing 50+ minutes.

I’m not sure I could play Gosie in my 17 though I don’t think I trust him. He’s probs more one for 18th or 19th man!

Probably mentioned before, but really good 4 part doco on Fox Footy on Titans. Check it out if you haven't already. Genuinely interesting how they are changing their team/club around.

Skimmed the last 7-8 pages of the last thread... anyone got a source on this news that Clune will play 14 from R2?

I don’t really get moving your HB midgame to HK to give him a spell but it is the Dragons so it’s likely.

If true, would anyone want Hunt? 50 average HLF boosted by some extra tackling?

    Exactly what I thought!

Why would the new coach repeat the nonsense from the old coach. He’s got his own new nonsense like Kerr on the edge

I think it was a legitimate question, needs to have the sign off from everyone before entering the team.

Don't think that'll happen this year but Hunt is still a pretty good scorer at halfback anyway. Maybe I'd consider him if it wasn't for the fact there are decent value options like Lam and CHT around while Munster is cheaper and has the potential to improve his average this year with extra playmaking responsibility.

Shifting your halves and bringing on a new one mid game has literally never worked, it won't work again and they'll abandon it.
