I did well last round scoring 1044 with out Paps so I'm not really panicked. First thoughts are to cover WFB3 with Mead/Niu for this week and build my bank to reassess next week.

    Team after trading Hoy>Walker

    Brailey
    Tino Watson LAM
    Fifita Riki
    Cleary Townsend
    Bird Momo
    Teddy Laurie Mead/Niu

    Angus Liddle Turpin Kenny
    Schuster Walker Alvaro Mead/Niu

Nice team, nice trade. Can't fault that logic. And yep probably target an underpriced rd 13 gun at some stage rather than chasing Pappy.

Yep, fair chance I'll trade out an origin gun before rd13 if it makes sense, eg if someone who's likely to be rested at some point goes and gets themself a relatively high BE. Other thing I like to do if possible is a short term points/cash play. Eg 2019 Watson and Tevaga. Both played the second bye. Both looked to only have a few weeks in a high scoring role. But playing the 2nd bye (for high points) and the week after as well (when some guns are rested) is invaluable. And making 50-100k or whatever along the way helps a lot and worth it if even for just a few weeks. Tevaga ended up being a keeper with the Harris injury lingering.

Edit: this of course is only possible if you follow paragraph one of the MS manual.
Panthers play first game after Origin 1 so I'd say Cleary is clear candidate to be rested at least 1 game. Even more so with the quality of Burton's playing and there position on the table.

Was it MTB or VK that sold Haas through Origin a few years ago and paid off huge?

Same decision for me. Was thinking Liddle might get a promotion. Actually yeah he does I reckon, and down to the shoe and Walker for 17th man.

I hoped and prayed a million times last year that Cleary would be rested and it just never happened, so I'm not sure he's the one I'll trade. Haas certainly was expensive and you can buy a lot of bye round points for that (probs like Cleary this year, so there you go). I kinda hoping Teddy gets his price stupid high though.

I do think we beat the sharkies by a couple of tries but Schuster against Warriors and Liddle against Cows edge him for me.

    Graham loves a missed tackle.

I'm locked in with Liddle. His good scores come with tries but with how the Cowboys have been playing, I could see him really carving them up through the middle.

Walker or Schuster is a tough one for me. I'm leaning towards Schuster because his 39 pretty much came with no attacking stats beside one offload so that looks to be his floor. Against a depleted Warriors side he might be able to rack some up.

Great post, and a reminder to uppercut myself if I try to make more than two non-long term injury trades over the next month.

One thing I'll add is that this year people are starting with a lot more Origin guns than usual (Fif, Crichton, Cleary, Ted, Pap in most teams... players like Munster and Tino fairly popular too) so might be optimal to trade out and in one or two of those (probably the Roosters who miss more than one game) to get the best out of the byes.

And agree with targeting Eng/NZ guns for first bye pre-Origin teamlists as absolutely sure there's no Origin, but the inconvenience here this year is the Raiders and Warriors don't play round 13 and neither does Taumalolo, so stocks are low and around the JFH/Kikau level.

Makes those Raiders/Warriors guys perfect if you want to go gun shopping in round 14. Can do a lot worse than ending the year with AFB, Tohu, RTS, Williams, Rapana. Throw in Taupau, Taumalolo and Taukeiaho and that is some serious fire power for the run home. Some high ceilings to go with the alright floors

    Thoughts on

    Tauk - Walker
    Milf - Cleary

How does this affect your MIDs going forward? I'd easily take SST in my MIDs than playing Leniu and counting his minutes.

It's a good point. One I think Booze often likes to make. Earlier upgrades are more powerful. Upgrading to a lower tier gun in round 14 that plays the second bye, scores more points than an upgrade to a better gun in rd 18/19/20.

This is a well balanced article re: the Souths position on Reynolds. Brings to light a lot of info I never knew about like their salary cap situation until 2023.

    I think Koala to Walker my only trade this week.  Would love to do something with Simo but he's green dot I guess.  Gives me this team this week;

    Brailey
    Watson Angus Alvaro
    Riki Fifita
    Cleary Milf
    Bird Peachey
    Teddy Pappy Laurie

    Turpin Liddle Schuster Walker

    Leniu Stefan Niu Simo

Could move Peachey up, slot Niu in and bench Walker if I want.

Don't think Niu out scores Walker this week so run em out like this. Simo looks like the first candidate out for the next Schuster/Walker type cow, banking the trade seems like the right play as you said.

Solid team and good trade. Safe bet would be walker at 17 over nui

    Brailey
    Watson Angus Alvaro
    Riki Fifita
    Cleary Milf
    Bird Jet
    Teddy Pappy Laurie

    Turpin SOS Schuster Egan
    Nui Walker Stephano liddle
    336k ITB

Heart says to hold trade, gut is saying to trade liddle to Tohu. Helps me leave Alvaro out of the starting 17. Any thoughts ?

I do like a bargain , especially one that you get full value out of haha
Give me 50pts in a bye and 100k discount over a full priced player now who averages 5 more points and plays the bye.

That was a good list before too @holymoly, Will be keen to keep an eye on it

As @MultipleScoregasm said in his post, we should be close to having the first cows maturing with the others due in a few weeks
At the same time we will probably get to see some juicy first bye targets due to bad luck or a minor injury bottoming out so just have to sit tight
Grab them and swap them out for the next bye players from rd14 on and ride them to the finish line

Thats what helps early on trading hard to get the right cows as you need them mature, ready to turn into the first bye players
Given they take 4,5,6 weeks often to make $$$ you can't be pissing around too late or buying them when most of their profit is already made
Most should be sorted here and we have been fairly lucky with some great half coin goats and not alot of injuries so can sit tight

These posts in the past few pages are quality now when people are thinking about trades
Too easy to jump sideways when holding a few weeks and getting the underpriced first bye player may be the better move
You never know, the player underpeforming you looked at trading goes on a run, I mean you did start with them
