    WFB based on total points

If you have and have held Papy you don't just get zero for the games he has missed, unless of course you've played with 16 every game he has been out injured.

You have summarised it pretty well here. It's better to be lucky than good

Skill will get you consistent top 1000 finishes but you need a string of good luck to get any higher

If rules don't change, I think  next year I will aim for a little more towards a more rounded 21 to start rather than a bunch of risky cows.

Two years in a row that teams are being forced to make a heap of trades on injuries. Not sure if there are more suspensions lately too.. no data on that, but it seems that way with crackdown on head contact/etc. Maybe just the players 'we' own being affected more.

Just being able to field a 17 each week that has some ok scorers in the 14-17 rather than having to force trades all the time is probably understated.

Its great in theory. But salary cap means that you need to have some cheap players in your team. And if you don't pick risky guys, then you are probably picking guys who are shit at fantasy.

The strategy of picking guys who don't get injured is definitely a good one, but I prefer MS's idea of picking guys who score a try every game.

Just on starling, is there really much risk? 60 mins a game @40 pts isn’t really that bad? People accepted that from Turpin and Egan earlier on?

Good point, I will do this next year. Also I will just pick all the guys who are going to average 60 Razz

The risk is if Hodgson gets his starting role back and Starling becomes a 20 minute bench player.

I'm interested to see how the much talked about strategy of picking players priced under 50 who then average 60 is going and what factors were used to identify them. So far we have only seen Fifita, Papy, IPap and Mahoney take that leap and it required a lot of tries. Comes back to the tried and test strategy of choosing the guys that score the most tries in the first 10 weeks

    No question mark about it.

    Starling is priced at 38.

if you pay that much for 40 points a week it is a waste for sure.
If you buy Starling its because you think he'll score at least 50+ (and hoping for 60s) until at least r18.
If he does maintain a 60+ average you can keep him for the rest of the season.

Its entirely possible, under current ruck rules from 8 starts in hooker he averages 61 in a bit over 72 minutes.
His average playing 40-60 minutes is 41 which just isn't enough to bring him in.

But if Hodgson comes back to any sort of serious role at all then you have likely wasted a trade.

Which way are you leaning with it mate? Still looking to bring him in?

Barnett's move to lock wasn't that great for his fantasy output, but Ponga out will help with the points he gets from goal kicking

He's in my team as we speak, but getting cold feet. Got too few trades to fuck around with more guys who might be duds

Original plan was Tohu + Peachey for Fifita + Momo.

But currently have Matterson + Starling in (for Fifita + Cini. Holding Momo for a week)

First option gives me 2 season keepers.

2nd option gives me 1 guy who is hopefully a season keeper, and 1 guy who is going to be a brilliant trade or a bust (2nd option also sees me with 16 this week unless Momo is a late in, but does leave me with more money)

if I bring in Starling it will be for Cini who plays Friday night

so by 12pm Saturday I could be locked in and encouraging all you meetup boys to go to the stars with me,

Probably passing on Starling. I can only afford to get him in by trading Grant to him, but I much prefer getting someone safer like Api or Matterson for Grant. May regret it down the line.
