Well what a weekend! Feel 1075 is a very good score compared to some of my friends around me. Walker really hurts but your Turbos, Hynes and Cleary's helped to offset that. Have gone from 6819 to 1956 in 4 weeks, and am 304 points outside the top 100 and 163 outside the top 500 so the charge is well and truly on. Have been banking trades and pulling the right triggers recently.

    1007 for me,

Slight drop in rankings, but for the first time in ages It looks like i won't have to trade this week

Might consider moving Papy on for Beans or Walsh, but otherwise I am sitting tight.

Lodges pending suspension and Edwards possible return will likely throw a spammer in the works for me this week

With all these sin bins for high shots & hia's happening every week it's mostly forwards who are getting pinged so it makes me more inclined to buy Hynes & Walsh this week because they'll make cash & score well without spending 10 in the bin or get placed on report.

Contemplating Papy to Turbo.....that 40 billion points he has scored since Pap has been out has really hurt, otherwise could have been clawing back some ranking rather than just treading water.
The trade makes no economic sense, is sideways as fuck and he may miss two of the next three but thats one better than Pap by the looks of things.

    Miss of the year

Judiciary may pose some problems for the Aardvarks as well with Lodge and Angus set to join Peach on the naughty bench.

Other than that everything is going well Laughing

The thing is, it almost always ends up being a dumb play.

If in the best case scenario for a non-owner; Cleary had a 20min HIA or injury - guess what, either the pack just holds for a week - and maybe you pick him up in a week or two for a $100k discount OR the pack sells him straightaway and you've maybe picked up 100 points and avoided a $100k loss.

Either way; $100k isn't that much of an advantage when you're trying to add $4million to your squad value to build a gun pack.
The 100 points isn't that much when you're trying to accumulate 25,000+ points across 25 rounds.

It's not one bad-decision though, it's a bad-decision not to start, then each following week has been a further bad-decision until you end up at a point that the disadvantage is so huge there seems little point in changing your mind.

Not having a go at you ET as I'm certain its not your intention and you've said yourself you often go against the crowd, but just thought it worth pointing out why perhaps some people are a bit tense around here. Often the discussion of Cleary is something that winds up simplified into "It was an easy call to make, who else were you going to Captain" which implies anyone who didn't make that decision was dumb, even if not intended that way. Anyone posting on a fantasy footy forum is probably at least a little competitive and doesn't like losing (some exceptions here for those who support perpetual shitters year on year in the real thing, you (we) likely are numb to it by now), so is already a bit sore about it before hearing they were a moron who couldn't make the obvious choice everyone else has.

The thing is though, like any part of your team decisions its more nuanced than that. The decision not to start with Cleary wasn't something you could easily rectify the next week, or week after that, as it required tearing your team apart and selling off other players you'd done your research on and formed an opinion on, off the back of 1/2/3 scores. By the time there was no longer just a couple of scores to go by you still had to tear your team apart only now he cost you even more.
Also the best case scenario for a Cleary owner was definitely not that he got a HIA or an injury, it was that he scored just 5 or 10 points less than he did last season (putting him at 60-65) and it wasn't an obvious immediate trade out. If he did that he was no longer top scorer despite paying the premium and then the Cleary owners would be faced with the same dilemma of whether or not that 1/2/3 weeks of scoring was an outlier or the norm and the other options may have gained in price by that time as he dropped. It wasn't even a wild fantasy, panthers were on fire last year and he had his hands in a lot of it. The thought that coaches may have a better plan for them, that the team form as a whole could drop (and don't kid yourself despite Cleary's "base" points appearing as though he'd still score the same in a far less successful team, he wouldn't) or that even his own form could drop off a bit after a devastating GF loss was far from a long shot, trust me... look at my guys.

All that said, I think as a non Cleary owner you just have to suck it up and whenever its implied you were a dumbass just shrug it off as unintended or someone talking with too much hindsight involved. Very few people are going to bother going into something enough to cover the nuances of something (and they honestly shouldn't, you'll wind up with a novel like this) and when it becomes simplified its easy to be misrepresented. Far more things to be annoyed with this year, both in fantasy (fuck KM scoring, Burton could become one of the top scorers in the comp joining the bulldogs if he just boots the ball and does nothing else) and the game itself (please please please don't fuck up origin further, let alone the finals series).

TLDR; Welshy sucks, Random (nvm, can't say it now I have to congratulate you, sigh, congrats) and Townsville too, same with the softcocks and old men who can't post gifs! And uh.. Free Papa!

    Here’s what not to do:

Plan a romantic evening of drinks and dinner and more drinks while the ring burns a hole in your pocket as you wait for the exact right moment that never arrives.

Then the next morning while in your boxers and a chesty bonds singlet, and reeking of sweat and alcohol, just stumble out and propose in the kitchen while she’s making a cup of tea surrounded by a sink full of dirty dishes.

I mean said yes anyway but it was pretty terrible.

@Archer I dont think anyone has questioned in the intelligence of non-Cleary owners. I know its a difficult decision to tear your team apart and go against the strategy that one believed in from the start but what's the point of having a whine about Cleary's scoring every time Panthers are playing.
