Capewell has been charged with a grade one crusher tackle and regardless of an early plea or not, will face 1 week on the sidelines.

    Hey all,

Missed the weekend - if someone could give me a brief on what happened with these players that would be amazing.

Walker - just a low score ala Gamble last week?
    Gamble - charged, suspension likely?
    Starling - low score?
Matterson - HIA but he came back?

You aren't dumb to have left Cleary out at the start. I considered it myself before I realized it was worth the premium price for the best captaincy option in the absence of Haas.

However it's the constant moaning and complaining, and ranting about the whole fantasy system needs an overhaul because you missed one player that is just a good case of just get him in your team and spare us.

"Oh no the best player in the comp is scoring more points than anyone else, curse this infernal game!"

    Gamble - charged, suspension likely?
Starling - low score? - Similar to Walker. Couldn't get into the game. Raiders pack were run over all night. Storm played through the edges so not many tackles in the middle either
Matterson - HIA but he came back? Didn't see but would like to know.

Not having a go at you ET as I'm certain its not your intention and you've said yourself you often go against the crowd, but just thought it worth pointing out why perhaps some people are a bit tense around here. Often the discussion of Cleary is something that winds up simplified into "It was an easy call to make, who else were you going to Captain" which implies anyone who didn't make that decision was dumb, even if not intended that way. Anyone posting on a fantasy footy forum is probably at least a little competitive and doesn't like losing (some exceptions here for those who support perpetual shitters year on year in the real thing, you (we) likely are numb to it by now), so is already a bit sore about it before hearing they were a moron who couldn't make the obvious choice everyone else has.

The thing is though, like any part of your team decisions its more nuanced than that. The decision not to start with Cleary wasn't something you could easily rectify the next week, or week after that, as it required tearing your team apart and selling off other players you'd done your research on and formed an opinion on, off the back of 1/2/3 scores. By the time there was no longer just a couple of scores to go by you still had to tear your team apart only now he cost you even more.
Also the best case scenario for a Cleary owner was definitely not that he got a HIA or an injury, it was that he scored just 5 or 10 points less than he did last season (putting him at 60-65) and it wasn't an obvious immediate trade out. If he did that he was no longer top scorer despite paying the premium and then the Cleary owners would be faced with the same dilemma of whether or not that 1/2/3 weeks of scoring was an outlier or the norm and the other options may have gained in price by that time as he dropped. It wasn't even a wild fantasy, panthers were on fire last year and he had his hands in a lot of it. The thought that coaches may have a better plan for them, that the team form as a whole could drop (and don't kid yourself despite Cleary's "base" points appearing as though he'd still score the same in a far less successful team, he wouldn't) or that even his own form could drop off a bit after a devastating GF loss was far from a long shot, trust me... look at my guys.

All that said, I think as a non Cleary owner you just have to suck it up and whenever its implied you were a dumbass just shrug it off as unintended or someone talking with too much hindsight involved. Very few people are going to bother going into something enough to cover the nuances of something (and they honestly shouldn't, you'll wind up with a novel like this) and when it becomes simplified its easy to be misrepresented. Far more things to be annoyed with this year, both in fantasy (fuck KM scoring, Burton could become one of the top scorers in the comp joining the bulldogs if he just boots the ball and does nothing else) and the game itself (please please please don't fuck up origin further, let alone the finals series).

TLDR; Welshy sucks, Random (nvm, can't say it now I have to congratulate you, sigh, congrats) and Townsville too, same with the softcocks and old men who can't post gifs! And uh.. Free Papa!

ps: Come at me mod shitters :RapanaAngry:

    That's fair.

And I apologise as it's certainly not my intention to cast any judgement on people's selection - sorry if it came across like that.

The point I was attempting to make was more about starting strategy and that the risk simply isn't worth the potential reward (which if we want to talk about being dumb - is something that's taken me way too long to get better at - and even then I'd grade myself about a C- starter).

Part of the risk with leaving out the highest priced player is that if you get it wrong you do have to break your team to fix it (or should have some idea what you might do).
Cleary took 5 weeks to go up $87k, so there was some time to revisit that decision.

End of the day, Fantasy is all about making decisions and we all make bad ones - lots of bad ones... in some ways it's about who makes the least bad decisions.

I'm pretty sure I'm not someone who comes on here and trumpets about my player(s) and look how good they've gone...
Surmo said he didn't want Zingers, but meaningful discussion on the merits/failings of the game and Captaincy selection - well respectfully, here's the alternative view point.

Often in fantasy the merits of a decision are good, but hindsight and what happens in the weeks following are the ultimate judges of that decision.
Anyway that's it from me, I'll take my seat and zip it

First year playing NRL and been trading every week. Normally i can find some obvious moves but at this stage of the comp im abit lost on what to do.

Walker my only down player and some small concerns on if Schuster and Watson slowing down

    Brailey
    Watson Crichton Haas
    Tohu Schuster
    Cleary Moses
    Kelly Bird
    Turbo Tedesco Walsh

    Cook
    Fogarty
    Laurie
    Walker

    Peachey*
    Schouup
    Cini
    Fusitou

was looking at Walker to anyone sub 520k but not much i love.

other option was Walker Schuster to Super premo and cheapie

or do i need to flesh out my bench more and go Walker Cini to 2 350kish guys so i have some more depth.

    lol!

This is probably one of the most insightful comments I have read in nearly 12 years of being on this forum.

P.S. I apologise to any members who are offended because they feel that they have made more insightful comments, and that they are being overlooked. It's just my opinion, and not worth getting upset about. ;-)

sajjos wrote:@Archer I dont think anyone has questioned in the intelligence of non-Cleary owners. I know its a difficult decision to tear your team apart and go against the strategy that one believed in from the start but what's the point of having a whine about Cleary's scoring every time Panthers are playing.
I think it's just an outlet for the frustration? I dunno I'm just guessing. The times I have a whine that's probably it, just like all the people (myself included) who brought in Lolo recently and bemoaned that outcome. Don't see all that many posters who support Panthers or storm (couple of those ones mind you), so a lot of us likely have an abysmal irl performance contribute to it.

I also get that it can become old pretty fast, just like complaining about missed tb's, what is or isn't a ta or how dumb tb's can be, but those also can contribute to the enjoyment of the place when memed or laughed off.

    Playing for h2h

Need to flick Grant and have 116k ITB.

I can grab Haas now but he's got 2 lower end scores now. Fogarty looks a good option with 4 60 scores in a row. Could grab Ipap aswell. Need some help on who to pick in that price range lads?
