I've never been ranked at no. 1 but I'd imagine you feel like you're compelled to trade every week just to consolidate the position so it doesn't surprise me no. 1 used all 4 trades & traded out players that probably didn't need trading out like Schuster.

Anyone else expecting to play with <17 next round?
I'd need at least one of Haas, Cleary or Turbo to back up to field a 17 and would also need Brodie Jones to get another gig.
If Tedesco doesn't back up then most likely Suaalii comes in so I have cover.
Any suspensions from today's games are going to hurt.

Long time ago now but when I was ranked #1 mid season in the Super Rugby Dreamteam I was second guessing everything I was doing and going over every scenario of what could go right or wrong with my trades.
Honestly don't remember if I was max trading or not but obviously didn't end up winning it.

I’ve keep Simo and bought in Mybe so I can cover Walsh and Teddy. So it’s not much of a 17 - assuming Mbye is passed fit.

Suspensions have been shelved this week. They're trying to set a different standard/precedent before Origin happens (and thus avoid a PR disaster).

Its shockingly bad, has reached a point where I wouldnt be surprised if someone like Radley sues the NRL for unfair treatment, with the inconsistency.easytiger wrote:

100% this.
It was the classic 2-3 week NRL crackdown before everything reverts back to what it was.

Yeah the nrl are full of shit re their concern for player welfare...you could see this a mile off that they would go easy the round before origin so they wouldn't have the situation in origin where a couple of players get binned & you have a lopsided result.
Also are you noticing now players are milking like the soccer players to get a penalty & are actually lowering their head before being tackled so there is contact with the head. You saw Peachey do it last night & L. Leilua did it when he got the penalty try & Laurie was milking hard out. To stamp this out imo do a review after the game & any guilty players lump them with a fine based on the percentage of their salary instead of just an arbitrary amount.

I've been pondering the same thing.
Essentially it becomes an inequality that has detrimentally prejudiced a number of players.
I suspect that part of their registered contact with the NRL prevents any further challenges or grievances and so they just have to accept it and move on.
It's a pity, because reducing bad head injuries should be a positive improvement- the idea is right, the way its been implemented is poorly considered and poorly executed.
I feel a bit for the players records going forward, going to be some big additional loadings for some.

You can't contractually create an unfair outcome for a party where there is a significant power disparity, as there is here. This would be a great test case, and I am confident they would win.easytiger wrote:

Hard to fault Lucy for diving over to score a try and getting hit in the head so hard that the ball came from his hands. Lots of players get their center of gravity lower going into contact, it is how you drive through the tackle. We are just noticing it now that the tacklers are being penalised for it. Guys like Too and Teddy do this to bust tackles.White Lightning wrote:Yeah the nrl are full of shit re their concern for player welfare...you could see this a mile off that they would go easy the round before origin so they wouldn't have the situation in origin where a couple of players get binned & you have a lopsided result.

A backline of Walsh, Turbo and Teddy could leave me a whole position on the sidelines but Laurie, Hynes and hopefully Mbye could cover.
Haas and Cleary potentially rested could leave me as low as 15 for the week.
Hopefully people back up.

I don't think Radley would have much to gain by suing the NRL. Maybe if he were at the tail-end of his career and had multiple incidents causing financial losses and emotional damage etc. etc. But he's young and misses a few games, maybe an origin payoff.. doesn't seem significant enough to fuck with the organisation that registers your contract.
Plus the NRL can argue they're trying to protect the players, but the players themselves spoke out about it, so they listened and relaxed somewhat.

I like he meant that Lucy stayed down to milk the penalty not that he lowered himself.

He was hit in the head hard enough to lose the ball, staying down due to the impact is hardly surprising.Honeysett wrote:

Lucy is one of the worst milkers of the nrl, he always stays down if he thinks he'll get a penalty.
