Just heard on the radio Bennett has confirmed he has moved back to Brisbane and wants to coach the new Brisbane team in 2023, with Demetriou replacing him at Souths. Got me thinking... those who have been around for a while, how did you guys navigate around teams having bye's every week? Was it annoying? Surely they would have to increase squad sizes.

Just thinking about BBL fantasy, where a lot of player picks comes down to the bye schedule. A different sort of game - much more trade heavy and less long-term gun/cow. Suspect increased trades rather than squads.

Don't have the stats handy but anecdotally we have seen teams moving from splitting kicking duties to having one dominant kicker since COVID break. Because of this I tried to guess which halves would dominate kick metres and start with those: Cleary, Moses, Munster, Lam. I got 2 of those wrong with Hughes/Munster having a more traditional split + Keary dominating more than Lam. As we saw the strategy was good I just picked the wrong cattle. Starting Townsend over Lam as an example would have worked wonders.
Kick metres samples from round 2 2020 including top 2 from each team:
Dogs Wakeham 221, Lewis 363
Cowboys Drinkwater 101, Morgan 527
Dragons Norman 273, Hunt 240
Panthers Luai 143, Cleary 355
Broncos Milford 277, Turpin 73
Rabbits Burns 50, ARey 202
Warriors CHT 131, Green 341
Raiders Wighton 158, Williams 252
Roosters Keary 104, Flanno 343
Manly Walker 124, DCE 598
Sharks SJ 221, Townsend 182
Storm Munster 229, Hughes 177
Tigers Benji 383, Jrey 31
Knights Pearce 339, Ponga 154
Titans Roberts 49, Taylor 345
Eels Moses 438, Brown 59
Only really Morgan, DCE, Moses, Benji and Taylor really dominated kick metres with the rest being split fairly evenly. Compare this to the most recent round where DCE (300), SJ (604), Burton (470), Arey (488), Clifford (665) all had massive kick metres. Plus we have seen what Cleary, Fogarty, Moses, Pearce, Averillo and Doueihi have done all year
Here's a chart showing the average share of kick metres for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranked kickers for each game across seasons. Hasn't changed much, more kick metres in the last few years though which seem to have been taken by the primary kicker.

Byes every week are a pain in the ass. If you played Milchy's 2006 comp recently it could leave you short of players very quickly
I definitely prefer 4-6 rounds of byes congested in the middle of the season

Cheers looks like dominate kicker is hanging in the 60-70% mark but total volume is increasing.

That was also something I'd considered. Its hard to gauge whether its the rise of one, fall of one, or both happening simultaneously.
No McInnes is obviously the big one.
Grant's year has been derailed by injury.
Would have been interesting to see where they ended up.
I guess the thing is it looks like the elite HKR is somewhere around 60 points per game, but the HLF is +65, so it suggests a shift in the tiers of positions.

Worst case he gets the one more week starting for 40 points, keeps that BE low and comes off the bench for 30 points in 16 and we sell in 17.
I’d be more than happy with that contribution

Kick metres returning to 2013 levels, when Jamie Soward last played. Not a coincidence.
Proportions not changing significantly is interesting, although clearly wbetween clubs there would be variation i.e. some dominant club kickers taking 60%, other clubs 80-90%. If a club that kicks a lot of metres also has a very dominant kicker, that's the target

The friz had tight rope surgery on his ankle. 6-7 weeks is pretty standard these days. 5 would be a new record for the NRL
Hopefully he’s back soon though we need him

Sorry it wasn’t deliberate I copied and pasted it as I posted it on discord to a mate and it’s easier to copy and paste than just re type the whole thing.
I’m happy for you to change it back to normal font size no problem.
That is my first post in around 24 hours so what I don’t appreciate is 4-5 downvotes immediately.
More posts mentioning downvotes. You know what comes next Rabs

Are any non origin players going to be playing next week? I thought there aren't any other international games so basically everyone else gets a rest.
Imo this means players who have been injured have two weeks to return, origin guys could get injured and also any crazy results this weekend could lead to team changes too.
Basically what I'm getting at is with all this uncertainty it's hard to go balls to the wall with 4 trades this week.
Atm got SJ and Simo in. Wasn't even considering Simo until I saw how cheap he was, fact that he plays r17 and wfb is one position I could be tested in if hynes is eventually back to the bench, teddy doesn't back up and walsh gets a break at any point.
2 trades atm laurie and momi to sj and simo. 13 trades left and 35k itb.
Going to go hard from next week onwards to trade in r17 guys who have leaked cash like afb and guns like tohu.

Pretty sure there are a few random ones.
There is Malta v. Lebanon next Saturday at Belmore Sports ground... not sure if NRL players will be involved?
