First, it should be pointed out that butters mistyped Taumalolo's BE as 65 rather than 56 from mtb's site.
Second, in mine/mtbs calculations, points per dollar over BE is closer to $1150 than the $1050 used for this contest, which makes a slight difference to the results as he posted them.

He'd still win his contest based on what he set out, but don't think its as clear as what the FB post above suggests. And the biggest factor was him getting Cleary correct. There's something about players missing the first few rounds and the assumed weighted average calculated by the system that Butters caters for better than my formula.

That said, I don't think he used the best methodology for his challenge. As I suggested above, using his figure of $1050 per point over BE for accuracy only works if that is the actual figure. The formula I use results in $1150 a point (its 8.333% of the MN, which is around 14,000) That isn't necessarily correct either, but its not necessarily better or worse than another made up number.

Another way to look at it would be to look at every player who gained/lost $0 this week. These are players who theoretically scored exactly their BE - and then look at what the different sites predicted for them. That happened for 5 players this round - Reece Walsh, Jack Bird, Sam Walker, Edward Kosi, Charlie Staines. And Butters actually got all their BEs to match their score (unless his site updated after the round finished - but I don't think it did)
So he should have used that methodology for his challenge and he would have looked even better. Whatever your opinions on Butters as a person, he seems to have a good BE algorithm on his site.


NRL Fantasy probably puts the least effort into their BEs, which is why they'd be least accurate. They'd just have an automated script that just chucks something out each week, and there'd be no manual intervention at all. Butters and mtb/myself at least put some effort into trying to get them accurate, so I'd expect that to show in results, and it does.

He was spruiking his BEs as the better predictor compared to footystatistics or the official BEs which is where this competition started

If nothing else, the site is a good place to look up NSW/QLD Cup stats - as the actual SWRL/QRL sites don't make that easy to track down

We refer to indigenous Australians as Indigenous people usually, or Aboriginals but that's actually a little frowned upon when said by Europeans. Also the comment itself is a little bit red hot given I don't think him being Indigenous has much to do with the way he acts.

It's generational and biological. Bad mix. Throw in Albey just got a season ending injury and probably is a shit talker, as well as Payne Haas being a hot head like his mother, and you've got the right mix for a few fists. Probably lucky it was with a team mate and not some Joe blow.

I've never come across him, but I agree with that last point.

I also think everyone else should captain Sexton. Moylan would be even better.

I will say Aboriginal in future I didn't realise the abbreviated name I used was not accepted now.
