I’m about 300 points ahead of you, ranked in the 5,000s. So there’ll be others who can give you better advice. Had a look at your team and trades - agree most of the trades look like they made sense and you’ve just been a bit unlucky eg jumping off Fifita before he went on his little run. Did you have a lot of cash sitting on the sideline waiting to pick up Cleary? The strategy of waiting and picking up Cleary early may have backfired, which again is a bit unlucky. If he’d scored big in that first week, you would have been laughing.
I’d say your team value is a bit low and you probably needed to go a bit harder earlier to generate cash to pick up a couple more guns at this stage. I think you’re on the right track though and you should see improvement in the next few rounds.
Worth having a look at Mulvy or DK’s team, both of whom are riding high. Ando too, but I don’t know his team name. Mulvy, MS and few others have done some excellent posts in the past on how to build a team through the year.
thanks for the advice mate. I definitely made the error of not jumping on some cashies early this year. Guess I was paranoid about trades like Cini, Tass etc wrt guys like Tago and May, but it just never happened. So missed those boats.
Didn't have a war chest or anything for cleary, was always going to pick some underperforming guns to swap to him. Like you said, him not being 2021 Cleary straight away hurt me, but that feels like more bad luck that bad management.
Think next year I'll focus on trading hard for the first 3-4 rounds like Booze was talking about to fix teams and take risks, then hopefully I won't be do far behind from the get go.
