Big old break even though....up around 85

Disclaimer : I sold him last week but would consider buying him back at a cheaper price to bulk out 14-17.

I don't feel bad about selling hm as I had him from the start, he had racked up a few 30's, was about his starting price and was no certainty to return this week. Switched him for Tohu.

On Savage, I posted this yesterday, but he should at least be a useful red dot if nothing else.

    From here on Raiders play:
    - 7x Sunday games
    - 1x 7:30 Saturday game
    - 2x 5:30 Saturday game
    - 1x 3:00 Saturday game

So only once in the first 4 games of the round, should make him a fairly useful loop. He's probably more useful as a loop than Vailea/Saab/other potential cashouts would be as scorers tbh.

    I've been looking.

Priced at 42-45ish (depends on the exact MN), averages 49 excluding the 2 recent low minute games. Jumps to 55 for the 3 60+ minute games, which I'd expect to be the norm in terms of minutes over Origin, but then he might lose the minutes again in the run home.

His BE is huge and for me the trades are limited, so I think I probably avoid.

I have 19 currently and will probably use 4 this week.

12 left and using a further 2 this week (Schneider/Hastings to Burton/Angus) so it's not great for me but I have so few R13 guys that need to be sold after R13 (especially with Max King coming good) that I think it's manageable.

After round 13 last year, I had 14 trades left in total, and adding the 4 trades in, I will have the same number this time. Only real difference is that I only used three trades after round 19 last year so to keep up the pace from last year, I would need to save one more, but I think that's doable.

14 and lost. Possibly all 4, blaze of glory and all, or 1 and done.

    I have 20 trades and I think I’ll use 2 for round 13.

Should give me 16 if Billy Smith plays. If he doesn’t he may become Savage, or I’ll keep looping with him.

19 trades left, will probably use 2 this week.

Significantly behind most people here in overall ranking though (7791). My plan has always been to try to finish strong while everyone’s teams fall apart in the run home due to being unable to resist 4 trades every week.

Not a dig, but that is lower than others, and just curious how you went for the run home last year? If you found yourself playing short multiple times, then it's counter-intuitive to be comparing this year's trades numbers with last years trade numbers and reassuring yourself that you are tracking well. In that event, wouldn't you be wanting to improve on last year rather than tracking similarly?

If I 4 trade this week I only have 11 left plus the 4 to come in so probably a bit light on but I do like the look of my team after the trades. Just need to upgrade the WFBs a bit,Starling and King have a limited shelf life so those two will be used to get a Teddy,Pap etc at this stage. Am I barking up the wrong tree here and is the team too top heavy? Was thinking of adding McInnes to it too at some point haha possible for Lolo if he doesn’t find form

    Ilias to Harris
    Schneider to Crichton
    Thompson to Savage
    Tass to Walsh

    Robson
    Haas Harris Butcher
    Crichton IPap
    Cleary Hastings
    Penisini Tago
    Walsh Hynes Koula

    Starling
    Elliott
    Lolo
    Burton

    King
    Kiraz
    Savage
    Vailea

Yeah, I wouldn’t be rushing out Hastings if doing so reduced me to 10 trades left at this point. Even Schneider is a hold for one more round if he gets named in the team this week. It’s a bold strategy to basically max trade early on to lock a “perfect” 21 as early as possible and just ride the wave from that point, but I’m not sure that many who finish in the top 1000 are using that method. I think people would do well to not be so invested in their overall rank at the end of each round. It’s like the NRL ladder. Doesn’t really matter who’s in the Top 4 after 13 rounds. It’s what happens at the end that people remember.

I actually had no issues with depth in the run home, and went on a massive charge up the ranks.

Due to a few really bad trades before the Origin period last year, I was ranked around 10k in round 14, and then went on my run, finishing at 2416 overall.

After the second bye round, I had no rounds in which I had less than 17 players, and only used my last trade in round 23 (trading a suspended CHN to Curran). In round 25, when everyone was having depth troubles, I had 18 players and went from 3724 to 2416 that week.

I get that, but this strategy worked for me last year. In fact I was in a much worse position with far less of my final team set, and went on a massive run up the ranks in the second half of the year.

Fair enough. It goes to show that going all out to improve the ranks and then try and hold on the for the run home can be an effective strategy. I'm not against that really, I could have used one or two extra last year though, and always trying to improve. Trading in spuds like Wishart and Taaffe doesn't help haha!

Settled on one trade which is Starling to Angus (I know its rd13 to rd13 but I think Starling might be done and if he's not I can live with that).

I had planned to trade out Scritta to someone else (preferably with WFB designation) but I'm flip flopping between Manu, Walsh & holding (have also contemplated Sexton which would leave Koula/Kiraz as a permanent member of the 17).

Manu would come in, score fine and would probably never leave, due to grand plans and the like, but also drains the bank
Walsh leaves money for another upgrade, has likely bottomed out but...has shown no signs of busting out a decent score this year...yet (also have taken into account the Loomer rant factor)
Sexton probably makes a few bucks on the way to someone else but leaves me playing Koula/Kiraz for the immediate future
SCritta misses a few but otherwise would have been happy to cruise along holding him

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions I haven't contemplated (yes I know your thoughts on Walsh @Loomer)

Got 17 trades before trades this week so while not flush, not busted either (also have sufficient Rd13 numbers for an ok score)

At the time I started this general strategy (the week I sold Ted, so 5 weeks ago), I was ranked 10k. I am now ranked at 1524 overall, so it has worked, and I just have to make my last 14 trades count.

I dont see a late flurry by me this year like last year, but I will be like the video game characters who are fallen and can still crawl and throw punches.

If you can hold Critter a week, I recommend Ramsey next week. He's 315k with a BE of 3, and has looked pretty solid at FB, good for at least 30-35 points a game. Three scores of 35 will make him 100k, and he'll be handy for round 17, before you either move him on in round 18-19 or hold as an 18th/19th man at the end.

with Sloan on the outer, I think Ramsey is pretty safe in terms of job security, and he gets involved, always wants the ball in his hands.

Just thinking ahead, which players are realistic RD17 options (i.e. wont play origin) that you'd be happy enough to have in your final 17/18?

    Sharks
    McInnes
    Brailey
    W Kennedy
    Miller
    Ramien

    Storm
    Cheese
    Hughes
    Papenhuyzen (potentially)

    Knights
    Klemmer
    Mann
    Best

    Rabbits
    Lattrell
    Cody Walker

    Eels
    IPap
    Moses
    Mahoney
    D.Brown
    Sean Russell

    Tigers
    Luciano L
    Douehi (if in the halves)
    Hastings
    Uto (if role increases)
    Nofa

    Broncos
    A.Rey
    Mam
    Herbie

    Dragons
    Lomax
    DeBelin
