I actually got her into Bloc Party, even though I'm old and shit!  I haven't listened to the first few albums to be honest, only started listening to them about 2 years ago after walking into JB HiFi one arvo and hearing the first 4 songs from Four and marvelling at how clean and unique they sounded Very Happy .  I'd not really heard them before then and actually went to the front counter and asked who it was, then proceeded to shell out for Four and Intimacy.

My eldest listens to pop and chart stuff unfortunately.  But she has always been somewhat of a disappointment...

liked not because of your bloc party fondness but because of that last comment about your eldest lol! intimacy is brilliant, Ion Square is probably my favourite bloc party song so intimacy always holds with me! But in all seriousness get yourself a copy of Silent Alarm and listen to the album front to back, it's an an absolute fucking masterpiece. I don't say that lightly either it is a stunning album and something I personally have up there with rumours, hotel California and a rush of blood to the head

You have convinced me to buy it mate, despite your best efforts to make me not by listing a Coldplay album by way of comparison...

Im on your side. I like the singles from the new album better, but as a cover-to-cover playthrough, their debut album is much better.

Only thing that irrates me about them now is how hard they are trying to be INXS. Bar down guys. We get it.

Also - didnt realise until this week that the Halsey song "colors" is about her fling with Matt Healy. And have to give a +1 to Intimacy... but its second in the Bloc Party discography to Silent Alarm.

Just smacks to me that Healy is getting too big for his music, stick
To what was incredible in the first album and that quirky Indy pop! Not sure I agree on the singles Sex, settle down and robbers were immense singles and got no where near the charts which is a crying shame when you see them basically recycling INXS - need you tonight with love me...I am a fan of change of heart which is pretty similar to what was good on the first album though! Glad that you said INXS and not the unoriginal, undeserved Bowie references they have been getting! Silent Alarm really is incredible, Intimacy was a decent return to form and I really enjoyed weekend in the city! Love hunting for witches and Kreuzberg off that album but I hated four!

There is a bit of Bowies "Fame" in their second album... its definitely an influence rather then being comparable to. But that guitar hook in "Love Me" just feels like an INXS hook.

Between Love Me and The Sound, I like their new singles better. The whole album doesnt feel as good - its a lot more adventurous though. I think it will age a lot better then their debut, which has The City, Sex, Girls, Robbers, Chocolate which are all great tunes but just feel pretty recycled from each other.

Cant wait to see them (again) at Splendour though.

It might age better because its been built around attracting plastic pop fans and its a crying shame. I can remember where i was exactly when I first heard chocolate and nothing on that second album remoteley has the same effect for me

Guess what... if its different and everyone loves the first attempt, stick with what was good instead of recycling 80's electro pop and "trying" to make every song different! Everyone tries to evolve and keep it current but its their originality and that voice....which made them/him so good to begin with

I would have Robbers, Sex, Chocolate, Settle Down, She way out, Heart out Beating Heart and even girls and the city over anything on their new album and it isn't even close

Pretty sure Your Name summed it up for me. I have Iron Maiden tix for tonight so that would help explain it as well...

With Billy Talent, yeah, got into them after hearing Devil in a Midnight Mass. Only ever bought the first 2 albums though.

Billy Talent, that's a name I haven't heard in ages.

Coldplay is absolute garbage I don't actually know anyone that likes them.

I get what your saying and I do love all their singles from the first album... I just like The Sound and Love Me more. Maybe because if you play them back to back you can tell when one finishes and the next starts. I'd rather listen to the debut cover to cover tho.

Looking forward to getting stuck into new Chance, Drake and blink182 this week.
