    I have no idea what I'm doing in SC and doubt I'll maintain interest in it so won't join league, but have put together a team. Probably using Fantasy mindset adapted to prioritise attacking players, but could someone tell me where I've gone right/wrong?

    BSmith, Boyd (R)
    NAS, Tapine (Hetherington, BMM)
    Difita, Garner, Hopgood (Doorey, Mooney, Matamua)
    Cleary (C), Hynes (R)
    Burton, Schuster (R)
    To'o, Suaalii, Staggs, HTF (Sloan, Alamonti, AKP)
    Tedesco, Ponga (R)

    NAS is no good in SC unless he's on the edge, I would go Horsburgh instead.

    I would personally run with Doueihi instead of Burton at 5/8 but that's up to you.

    You're too heavily loaded at CTW, I would really only bother with one gun there (Val is mine) and load up cheapies in the rest of the spots, cheap CTWs are way more playable than they are in fantasy.

    Ponga is no good at 5/8 and is also injured, I would probably run Turbo there if he's right for round one. I also have Trell over Teddy but that's also up to you.

    Thanks. So I'll downgrade my CTWs and pick up Turbo and look for another prop for NAS. And then forget about it two weeks in.

    (I'm IN, and back for another go too)

    I had pretty much the same thoughts when I started SC last year for the first time.

    If it's helpful, here are my main takeaways for anyone playing SC for the first time (coming from a Fantasy background);
    Largely use the same Fantasy mindset - the basic principles are the same;
    - you can't win it from the first round, but you can disadvantage yourself - so I'd aim to be there or thereabouts (nothing too radical).
    - it's primarily a trading game - in that regard, it's not much different from Fantasy, but prices move on a 3-week basis rather than 5 - this means the increases can be steeper, but so can the drops (i.e. pricing is more volatile and works off 75% old price + 25% 3-game average) - if a player scores a tonne their value may boost quickly, but that 100 will drop off after three weeks too (so sustainable scoring is still more important than chasing a quick cash gain).
    This also means you get a look for any players first two games (e.g. the opening weeks at start of the season) before they start shifting in price.

    Other things to note;
    Captaincy is critical - more than in Fantasy. You want to nail your Captaincy choices - these are typically FLB or HLF. You can shed 200 points on the pack if you get it wrong.
    Make sure you understand the Captaincy loophole and use it (I didn't realise it was a thing early on, but didn't really embrace it for a couple of months).
    https://scplaybook.com.au/2020/05/27/how-to-utilise-the-vice-captain-loophole/

    I feel like SC is more about minimising mistakes rather than trying to get everything right - in that sense, I found my mindset a bit more relaxed (that could just be me).

    You will know SC scoring is generally higher; that means Keepers are about a 70+ average, Sub-guns between 55 & 70, middies between 40 & 55, and Cows under 40, with a baseline floor being about a 20-point average.
    You generally want most of your squad scoring over 50 as quickly as possible. Most weeks there will be a handful of players that put up a 100+ score.

    Generally, players that score well in Fantasy tend to be good in SC too, but try-scoring wingers are relevant in SC (it took me quite a while to get my head around Alex Johnson being relevant, for instance).

    Being able to boost a handful of times (use 3 trades in a week) is great, and offers a chance for some strategy. From memory, you also get an extra trade capacity on the big bye rounds?

    I generally found that once I got familiar with SC (it took me a couple of months) that it became quite complimentary to Fantasy and gave me a slightly broader perspective.
    Anyway, hope that helps.

    Every year I start with cheap centres and they always get me off to a slow start and let the team down. Might go expensive centres this year and see how it goes

    Interested in the drinkwater pick, feel like he is the kind of guy you get in a draft team more than choosing as a gun. I'd look to shift one of your halves for a schuster and then upgrade drink to a mitchell/ted type player.

    I'm in. Last year I put in a team at the very last second and didn't do very well, so hoping with a bit of prep and actually being in a "proper" league I can give it a better crack

    apparently in 2021 the ctw's were either 1st or 2nd highest scoring position so this position is very important so wingers especially can crack those tonnes like johnston. i'd say starting with someone like holmes could get some hauls with their draw altho he's 725k
