    Roosters + Panthers early mail...

The Roosters will appeal Sam Walker’s category one head knock in a bid to have the halfback cleared to play the Panthers on Thursday night.

Roosters are expected to be without prop Lindsay Collins. Collins suffered a hamstring injury and underwent scans on Saturday. The hamstring strain is expected to be minor but will still result in Collins most likely spending some time on the sidelines.

Luke Keary is also a potential starter as he continues to progress well from a head knock. Keary missed Friday’s game against South Sydney.

Outside back Billy Smith suffered an ankle sprain in NSW Cup but the injury is not understood to be serious.

Penrith have hosed down any injury concern over star halfback Nathan Cleary being unavailable for a blockbuster clash with the Roosters on Thursday night. The withdrawal of back-up half Brad Schneider from the NSW Cup on Saturday, coupled with Cleary’s early exit from Penrith’s win over the Broncos last Thursday night had led to speculation the chief playmaker could be in doubt.

However, Penrith officials have confirmed Cleary is a certain-starter against the Roosters and that he will resume team training on Sunday. Schneider pulled out of Penrith’s NSW Cup clash due to an illness.

First year as projected starter (once fit). Has impressed when starting fullback in previous stints covering injuries. A few 60+ scores to tempt us all.
