Again - calling Inglis a serial wife beater is slander... Everyone knew about what Johns was doing and no-one intervened in any way https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/joey-retired-just-in-time-20070831-gdqzxb.html I am not going to respond to this topic anymore here .. You yourself said Johns and Simona were treated differently - but there is no convincing some people so lets leave it to agree to disagree
Agree that racism has played a part in thr treatment of certain players over others.
Jons using recreational drugs while playing is teh least of his "antics", Novocastrians have many urban myths surrounding Joey and his unacceptable behaviours.
Great footy player though.
IMO that's the point - very very few players are wat I would describe as being great examples for younguns.
They are young men who are good at an essentially violent sport. They aren't paragons of morality, just like we don't expect rock stars to be good examples to our kids.
I have two sons and I'm fairly certain they are watching me for moral guidance and a sense of what it means to "be a man" more than whether or not KP was doing something dodgy in the toilets.
Basically, I think the NRL is in the business of sport as entertainment, and like all businesses, they will protect their brightest (most bankable) stars.
Joey is an "Immortal" (whatever that means) and as such was always going to be protected.
Just like JT, Locky, Freddie, Alf, Wally etc.
